Few questions about paid links

    Hi,

    Few questions about paid link?

I presume google penalises for paid links.

Does google penalise the person who sells them, or the person who buys them? or both?

    How does this affect directories?

If you are the purchaser do you get penalised by loosing the links or would you get sandboxed?

    Thanks.

I had seen in this update, paid links really works.
This is not good for SEO.
Now Google should have to panelized buyers also...
    This is too much...

The real problem is for the person who is selling the links.

In case Google start to penalize people for buying links, then people will start to buy links for their competitors in order to get them penalized for buying links.

Google penalizes both the one that selling links loses it's PR and the one who buys it loses it's rankings.

I have never submitted to any directories and after reading this I never will.
This is a quote from makers of Barracuda links directory who were penalized by Google.

Well personally I think what BoonEx is saying is total BS. The penalisation of directories has nothing to do with the script or the concept itself, its about how the owners were buying and selling paid links.

Yes I agree, but it is not only paid links, Google is now seeing a lot of directories as having arificial link popularity.

Any link is fine if it's useful to your visitors. Doesn't mean that the search engines will necessarily agree and count it towards their link popularity numbers.
At least where Google is concerned, they only consider links that they believe are a "vote" of confidence. Of course, they determine this through automated technology, so their determination is often fallible. Sometimes they err on the side of counting links that really aren't a vote, and sometimes they don't count links that really are a vote.

Not much we can do about it at this time except to make the very best visitor experience we can.
