Does anyone know about MidPhase's dedicated servers? I am thinking about getting one or two for free hosting accounts.

I just want to know if theres anything important I should know about them before ordering because they offer some really good deals.

    http://www.midphase.com/html_files/plandetails_dedicated_NS02.php

    2.66GHz Quad Xeon Processor
    2x 250GB HDDs (Upgradable to 1TB HDDs)
    10TB Monthly Bandwidth (w0w)

and look at the price yourselves.

I actually just recently purchased one as I was looking for a new downloads server (a server where I'd host all of the files for my downloads site and directly link to them). For the 3 years I've been in the hosting business, and even longer with my downloads site, I've never seen such a deal as they had so I asked about 100 questions and then decided to try it. Everything they say is true.

For each dedicated server, you get a fully dedicated non-shared 100Mbit line with 10 TB bandwidth per month. Obviously, this is fantastic for my downloads site as I can serve files VERY fast and there's no way I'm going to use 10 TB bandwidth per month, at least not yet.

I decided to get the cheapest server ($200) because I didn't need the power and though I would have preferred lighttpd, I was told by the sales person that if I wanted to get the SupremeSupport (basically so it was fully managed) I would need a control panel like cPanel. So I got that too and thus my total bill is near $300, but that's still a hell of a deal for what you get. (It wasn't until later, when I've been actually chatting with the tech support guys, who are very responsive I might add, that they don't need cPanel at all, but oh well).

In any case, I think they are fantastic so far and am glad I switched as my file serving has never been better. :)

    Interesting,

I would suggest instead you could check out for more dedicated server hosting providers and then decide all for once. ;)

That's what I did. Weeks of research, searching, asking hosting friends, etc. No one else in the US that I can find has that same kind of deal for that price. Hell, most usually charge at least $1000 for a non-shared dedicated 100Mbit line (though that's unmetered and not capped at 10 TB bandwidth).

So if that's what you're looking for is speed and huge bandwidth, I'd say midphase. Otherwise, if you just need a powerful server and whatnot, there's other providers that can help just as well or better. :)

So you pay 300 monthly? And you get a fully dedicated non-shared 100Mbit line with 10 TB bandwidth per month? I know thats not possible for that cheap since a dedicated line will cost you more than 600 USD. I could be wrong, but thats what I think.

Well, if you didn't want it fully managed or didn't want a control panel, it would only be $200. :)

It is quite possible and I was extremely skeptical myself. But there's been official press releases and such on how they are able to do so. They have a very special and very exclusive deal with Softlayer to be able to give such specs. It's not an unmetered line, obviously due to the 10 TB limit, but it is fully dedicated and non-shared. I tested it A LOT before I moved all my files over to it. I can download to the server at over 11 MB/s and I can upload at over 11MB/s as well. Nothing has changed as far as this goes and if you want to test, try going to my downloads site ( http://downloads.littlbuger.info ) and download a large file. I guarantee it will nearly max out your home connection and get close if you did it from a dedicated server with a 100Mbit connection (you probably wouldn't get 11MB/s as I did before now, though, because the line is partially saturated from my users).

The press release about the Softlayer deal is here: http://www.softlayer.com/press_2008_03_31.html

Like you, I didn't believe it at first, but after asking them seriously 100 questions and then trying it out, I know it's all true, and I love it. :)

It really is one hell of a deal but I am just making sure there isnt any "tricks" up their sleeves. I tried contacting their live chat support and they didn't answer the call for a good 40 minutes I just left the chat window open there.

That's weird. I talked with them through live chat at least 3 different times and they answered relatively quickly. Not sure what might be going on with your situation. :-\

I actually have a log of all of the chats I had with them asking them a ton of questions if you like to see it. I can send it to you if you want to PM me your email or something, or I can put it online for you to download. Just let me know. Thanks. :)

Its ok no problem, I am just wanting to know others' experience with MidPhase before I go ahead and order myself. Thanks LittlBuger.

The deal they're offering is by far one of the best I've seen so far. However, what I've noticed from these "big" hosting companies is that they can offer one thing really good but end up lacking in others.

Have you called there number yet.

    and look at this
BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE OFFER!

Here's how it works: For every month that you pre-pay, you'll receive another dedicated server of equal value FREE! for the same time period. So, if you prepay for 6 months, you'll receive an additional dedicated server for 6 months!

Yeah another thing I forgot to add. They're simply giving you 2 servers for the price of one. AMAZING DEAL.

I will continue to try to contact them through chat and then perhaps their toll free line to ask some questions before I make any order. If I find out anything I'll let you all know ;)

Well since i have not done any business with them (I may check it out and buy one) but if you are looking for a server now. I can tell one data center that I have had good success with and awesome server management.
They dont offer the bw like this other company but it is premium bw . Check out caro.net We have been with caro for almost a year now.

Yes, it's that good of a deal. I bought my server around the 17th of this month I believe. Support and everything has been great and my downloads site is doing fantastic.

As for that 'get a free server' deal, beware of a couple things:

    1.) That ends tomorrow
2.) It's only a 'one-time' thing, meaning if you pay 6-months advance now, you get the 2nd server for free for those 6 months, but then you must pay for it afterword... you can't renew the free deal thing.

I made sure of that myself as that seemed too good to be true. As for everything else, I'm still willing to post any information to help prove what I've said if you're still skeptical. :)

Well, the only other things I can mention is they only do monthly contracts. So, a deal breaker for me when I was considering moving ALL of my servers over, was that they can't give me a lower monthly fee for a higher setup fee, as they don't do setup fees. That and there's no one-time fee hardware upgrades, they only do monthly fees. So my main powerhouse server I have now (dual quad-core Xeon, 8 GB RAM, RAID 1 Raptor drives) only costs me about $240 a month, but I had to pay near $1000 for upgrades and setup and such. If I switched to midphase for the same thing, it would not cost me any setup, but like $700 a month it seems, so that's a no-go for me there. Otherwise, they are great. :)
