    Hi,
I was wondering that if the video promotions in youtube work out for web directories? I've seen many web directories videos in youtube like rakcha, authoritydirectory and many others, so do you get any traffic from it?
I need some info about it.

    Regards,
    Ilyas

I may be thinking wrong here, but i cant imagine people searching for web directory videos in youtube.

Ive searched for tutorials before, like photoshop or something, but not for web directories, or their company name, seems odd, i would just visit their site.

Unless you have one of those girls doing ass dances, then il take a look. :)

    Anyone? :p

I am not sure I got any traffic from it, It was viewed 60 times in youtube, may be 59 are from DP.
The video was done by Loredan from http://www.zyas.com as part of his directory review.
I could have used the video to promote the directory but I was lazy/busy and did not.

My video there has 196 plays and where the clicks are generated from are given on youtube.

    39 clicks from http://video.stumbleupon.com/
    22 clicks from http://www.zyas.com/Directories_and_Searching/DeepLi...
    15 clicks from http://www.authoritydirectory.com/blog/authority-dir...
    6 clicks from http://www.authoritydirectory.com/blog/
    3 clicks from http://www.ebjuris.com/Web-Directories/Deep-Director...

So no not a ton of traffic generated from youtube itself. For awhile after the video was posted on youtube it would come up in google searches for authority directory on page one, but I see that it no longer does.

The video was done by zyas.com and included the review for listing and a blog post review. The thing to remember is that they are nice links with the blog post returning high results for that same search above.

The video is nice for creating excitement about the site and can be posted in your own blog for when people visit your site like I did.

The links are very nice and the video is a nice professional touch for promotional purposes for those that are interested.

I think that it was so worthwhile that I recently submitted another site for a video review, blog post review and listing review that you can also check out.

To be honest I only ever use youtube for personal entertainment. I could never imagine using it to find a web directory.

    nobody does.
youtube is essentially to host the videos in this case (space/bandwidth)

Any idea of advertising is great but what I did notice was that these guys clearly now nothing about the law.

Let me tell you why this method is very dangerous.

The two examples I looked at used copyright music which they are legally compelled to pay royalties for. Even if it's one cent per play. The fact someone could click on that video 7 billion times would then render the owner of say Rakcha, subject to paying 7 billion cents which in anyone's eyes is an awful lot of money.

Don't think for a second the people these popstars pay to protect this kind of theft don't look at youtube, they do.

I'm not trying to be smart here I'm trying to be practical and help others stay within the law. You need to know the law to have known what I just pointed out, these directory owners clearly don't and I bet never even thought of the consequences. Forget about 'fair usage' as a defence, that goes out of the window on music.

Hope this helps people avoid making the same mistake as others.

I very much doubt it would have any success in bringing submissions to your directory
more of a gimmick than anything
better to spend your time adding some new sites to empty categories than creating a video imo

Interesting concept, and thanks for the additional information, Bruce.

I'm wondering why a directory couldn't provide an entertaining/informational video about a topic related to the directory or a directory category. Of course, it wouldn't be about the directory, but it could still lead a viewer there. I really would think specific searches for directories on youtube would be rare.

But - I wonder if this isn't a branding play, too, cementing that specific directory into the minds of the viewers...possibly leading to submissions that might otherwise not have been...

    this is so funny lol.

    Authority Directory

The video sounds like a cross between a Spanish Jackie Chan film and a very bad porno. The video says nothing about the benefits of this directory, and shouldn't that be the main selling point of the video

    beacon and zorg directories

These are owned by the same bloke. Pitch was bad, very bad.

    Whoswhoguide

This guy started his pitch well, but was overcome by his nerves and he messed up what could have been quite a good pitch.

Oh, you have to be a PR4 or they won't exchange links with you. Otherwise you gotta pay $50. But the guy is English, so why is he selling in dollars

    Too funny....

Anyone who has watched TV at any point this decade knows that promotions are to create excitement about a brand or product. Commercials you see now days are geared toward entertainment.

Have you ever seen a video review of a site when they walk you through the different features there? BORING!

I made a video once to promote my friends dive shop via youtube, video production was my field prior to moving to Japan.
The video pack had a few short clips and one 5min promo type of clip, now with 4 videos having had over 10,000views combined we looked at the traffic stats for his webpage, there was a noticeable jump, around 15% after the videos began to really circulate. How ever I dont think this would work so well for a directory, matching video content to what you are advertising is the issue there.

I can't speak Spanish so couldn't understand what the song was about and if it related to the directory? Also what was the reference to the cow going 'moo', and the 'sticky' saying 'sexy'? It may create interest but of the wrong kind. And guys, keep in mind that pop singers are greedy people, they pay Lawyers a lot of money to view youtube these days because of use of their music. Hiding behind proxy domains won't stop these big dogs sniffing you out.

Honest advice, if your going to use youtube or any other streaming to promote a directory accompany it with voiceover not a song.

    Hello guys,

Quite a while I've tried to stay away from DP...having a lot of work to do with some projects.

Since I've seen this thread I thought that would be fair to post my opinion as response to this clown, quoted below, who claims to be lawyer, solicitor or whatever it is but it seems that he is not aware of the way youtube works

Jamie, as a solicitor you should know that a couple of years ago YouTube has been in trouble and it was quite a big scandal with the music producers. Since then YouTube signed agreements with all the major Music Houses, the likes of Warner Music, Sony BMG and all the rest. Through these agreements YouTube will pay royalities for every song broadcasted on their site. Also YouTube claims to have the tehnology, a system code named "Johnny" that detects and automatically remove the copyrighted videos for which YouTube hasn't signed royalities agreements yet.

I thought that I should post this for you since you have stated the same stupidities not once but twice on this thread.

As for the other people...it is your right to comment a video, like it or not. I have created AuthorityDirectory video and I think there is no need to explain what was the idea behind this video to everyone. I have told to Bruce what was all about and all those images mostly represent the directory categories...if you are open minded and have a bit of imagination you should see that. As Bruce said...it creates a bit of excitement which is important, isn't it. Someone asked if the song is related to directories...are you stupid pal? How many directory's songs have you played on your ipod so far?

I would recommend to all those who comment to try to make a video first...see how "easy" it is and then to start talking bullshit around. It's always easier to moan everytime than trying to do something constructive.

    Thank you
