Why most of directories have good alexa rank?

I want to know your opinions on it. Why most of the directories have good Alexa rank than most of other site? I found most of directories are between 50,000 to 3,000,00.

 

Does that mean if you add a page for webmasters on your site it will get good PR

 

No. Two different companies and ranking systems.

Alexa has always been biased in favour of the websites that other webmasters visit. Until they can get a different audience to adopt their toolbar, or they reduce its importance in their ranking system, it's going to stay that way.

In few words... Alexa Rank measures the webmaster traffic.

So, if you own a website like : www.MyDogShittedOnTheCarpet.com ...your Alexa Traffic rank won't be so high...even if you have huge traffic...but it is not "that" traffic.

 

Alexa traffic ranks are not accurate, regardless of the niche. Alexa says my directory has the majority of traffic coming from India, when it fact USA traffic is 40 times that.

And as everyone above noted, directories get a lot of webmaster traffic - especially if its a free directory.

 

Try Google Analytics and you will see..that Alexa may not be wrong.

 

I do not place much in alexa traffic and they just redid formula so all those ranks might be different now

 

Even if the new rankins are different..I think is in the good way. Everyone tries to improve the business services.

Seemingly there is a strong correlation:
1. of being a webmaster and promoting site via directories and
2. of using alexa toolbar.

there are more such correlations:
I've paid attention that 95% of traffic from DP to my site arrive by FFOX,
But totally no more that 20% of traffic by FFOX. 75% - IE6/7

Really? - great, where does it say this on the Alexa site or Amazon sites?

I don't trust any of the toolbars at present, Google's is flawed and controlling, and Alexa can be manipulated by visiting your own site.

 

As Mikey accurately said, they are visited by each other, in other webmasters, mainly other directory owners.

Alexa in my honest opinion is absolute nonsense as it stands because the 'end user' the customer, the searcher of (the builder, the 'web designer', the 'cosmetic surgeon'), and all those who want to get listed and found in directories don't install alexa's browser bar so their traffic can't get measured. The only traffic they base their ratings on are those who DO.. If Alexa can educate the 'normal user' to use its tool it would become an excellent gauge of traffic.

It could then build on that and show us targeted traffic.

 

Now that's an idea. Why aren't these services doing this already

 

Not webmaster traffic, but interested in PR and SEO.
Webmasters for example do websites, designs, scripts - really most of them don't care about PR or other serps factors.
Not even installing Alexa toolbar.
Recently ALexa claimed they improved algho, but I wouldn't be so sure, and recently they updates ranks not so often so it isn't accurate.

 

The day a webmaster stops caring about serps is the day they want to seriously consider working offline as serps is everything no matter WHAT business your in.

This thread refers pretty much to directory owners and associated sites whether they be coders, designers or seo's, most use the alexa toolbar, to say otherwise would be naive.

One point I agree on. They've not improved anything except the layout of the graphs etc. Until they can convince the 'ordinary' computer user, (potential buyers of any product or service) to install their browser add-on they will only ever be a useful tool to webmasters, and even then its unreliable as we all know.

At the moment its only us and amazon customers that they can possibly target.

 

mikey, come on, if for you webmaster=website owner (which is ridiculous) than why alexa is not equal in measuring all sort of websites?
CATS related website owner is same owner as directory website owner. But why there's so big difference between both owned sites in Alexa when let's say have same traffic?
You know the answer, and what I wrote seems to be right.

Don't forget that even my or your dog may be website owner, or even your WIFE if you have one !!!

Jamie G - eg. as a webmaster (designer) what business I could have in checking PR and all SEO factors with alexa? I do layout, graphics, check for validation and finally deliver to client. I don't care what the owner do with his site.... What rank or PR achieve... I don't need alexa toolbar at all for my job then.

 

To get the high PR links, so it's true - all they want is the free PR link.
