    Hello all,

My site has lost its position from #2 to #6 for a very competitive keyword and well, because of that I am facing heavy lose. I must admit that I have been slow with link building and have not added fresh content regularly. Did I just answer my own question?

Basically, what I want to know is how can I recover back to #2 as quickly as possible and what could be the reasons why I have seen this kind of drop? Do I need to do anything besides link building and adding fresh content?

Is there a way to quickly recover from this?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Regards,
    z

Well, I think there were tow reason 1st your one (I have been slow with link building and have not added fresh content regularly) and other one is, as you say you got ranking on very competitive keyword so may be your competitors doing better then you,
Solution: 1st start doing work on your site as u did in past and check your competitors sites.
Hope this can help you to get ranking back

It may also just be the Google algorithm acting a bit wonky - ride it out for a few days before implimenting any knee jerk reactions.

Ok and now I'm on the second page i.e. my current Google SERP ranking for the targetted keyword is now #11 and this is killing us!

I think Google has certainly changed something. This is not working well for us. Can any of you give me an idea about what Google has changed or what should I do next? I have started link building again but that takes time to get crawled right? Should I add content daily? Would that have any positive effect?

Thank you for your response guys, I could really use some help here!

    Hi Zee
I've found that google's search results tend to vary quite a bit anyway.
What type of site do you have, is it a static site or CMS/blog?

One good way to add some link love is via RSS. If you have a CMS/blog
platform you will more than likely already have an RSS feed. If you have a
static site their are ways to create an RSS feed from your static content.

Once you have an RSS feed then signup to some of the top RSS directories
and add your RSS feed and use as many related tags as you can.

The top RSS directories (such as feedage and feedburner) have
good PR and get crawled quickly by the SE's due to their dynamic
    updated content.

Another great way to add some link love is to make a
video relating to your niche and upload it to some of
the top video sites. These sites are very high PR and
if you add a keyword rich description and tags you'll
get a boost very quickly. I have had a video that I
submitted showing high in the google results within
    HOURS )

And here's another trick, PROMOTE your video
link via the social bookmarking sites too. Don't
spam them mind you, but if you use these sites
to bookmark your video links I think you'll
be very happy with the results.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
    Col

Thanks! My site is dynamic. We use our own CMS that we coded. I don't have RSS feeds no and I am going to add that.

Making a video sounds like a great idea indeed but, we do not have resources to pull that right now. Right now, I am looking for a quick damage control. I need to recover back our rankings right away because like I mentioned earlier, it is killing us!!!

Do you think that if I add RSS feeds then there is a chance that I'll get back to top 10 real quick?

Thanks for all your help guys!!

Don't just concentrate on link building. SERP ranking also depends on many other factors like content, on-page optimization etc. I would suggest giving those some attention as well. I am sure that will help you get the rank back.

Sorry for taking some time to answer but I was trying to search for some type of free tool you can use.

Firstly, I understand that you need a quick measure so coding rss into your CMS is out as it will take time. But you can do something else in the meantime. I actually have my own server script that I use to crawl my static sites and create RSS feeds so even though your site is a CMS that may still work.

I did some searching and found this site http://www.rssfeedgenerate.com/generate-rss-feeds.php

Now I haven't used it myself but it looks like it will do what my script does. Try it and see if it will create a proper RSS.xml file of your site content. If it does upload the file to your server in the root folder.

Once you have done that submit the rss url to the top few rss aggregators (such as the 2 I mentioned earlier. Your rss url will be http://www.yousite.com/rss.xml

Now understand that submitting your rss feed to these directories is more powerful than simply pinging. Pinging just notifies of updated content whereas submitting your feed to the aggregators is getting a link to your site from these high PR sites. As I said before, remember to use a number of good tags when you submit.

Re videos. A video does NOT need to be a professional type of thing. You need high quality links quickly as I understand it. Depending on your niche, you can create some screen capture images (using MWSnap which is free) and record yourself doing a commentary (using Audacity, also free) and then create a slideshow type of video in windows moviemaker. Once you're done submit it to youtube and some other video directories.

As for will you/won;t you get back your ranking thats an impossible question to answer. However if you have already had a high rank and you get new links from high PR sites such as RSS aggregators and video sites I find it hard to see how you couldn't get back fairly quickly. Go to alexa and have a look at what the MOST visited sites are on the web.......Youtube etc etc.

Also, as webcosmo mentioned above, add some new content as this is what drives google, they love fresh content.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

Are you losing traffics as well ?
I have 2 keywords that is slowly losing positions. But the strange thing is that my traffics seems to be increasing. Majority of them comes from long tail keywords.
Look at your traffics to see if the lost in position in also affecting your traffics.

Thank you everyone! Specially Iceman! You have some really neat and cool ideas! I will defenitely try these. I just noticed that my site has also dropped PR. This of course does not sound good. I have purchased any text link and neither have I sold one. I do participate in link exchange, could this be a cause of all this? :s

puti: My traffic is decreasing for sure :s

Another perfect example of why you should not build your business on Googles back.................

Place all your eggs in one basket and you soon have no eggs.....

Besto of luck but without anyone seeing your site or the keywords the only answers you will get are guesses... and those are not even close to being accurate....

One of my sites has been hit hard for apparently some reason only Google knows. I have not sold or bought any link but I have participated in simple link exchange. Now, it's time for damage control and I need to know what steps should I take in order to get my PR back up a bit and to get back to page #1. Currently I am on page #2.

Also, I would like to know more about Google's approach towards Link exchange. Do they not like it anymore? Must we place a nofollow tag for every outbound link?

What should I do next? I really want to get back to where the site was before.

    Regards,
    Zee

How old is the website, and how long did you maintain those SERPs to begin with?
