Ridiculous collectivism. There are veterans who can't get care or benefits, and we're wasting time singling out ethnic groups for gratuitous recognition. How meaningful will this be when they eventually get around to American Indian Heritage Month, Italian American Heritage Month, Polynesian American Heritage Month, and Pennsylvania Dutch Heritage Month?
No surprise guerilla would object. Nothing like political opportunism to express a grievance by invoking Veterans. The same brave men and women that he's also accused of being purveyors of genocide. John Kerry would be proud.
I'm looking forward to it. BTW Gtech, I think you will like this one too, President Bush just made loyalty day to be celebrated on every may 1, good time to display the flag.
LOL Happy Birthday! I think you can keep them seperate, but if you want to mix them... You could just have a Jewish mother visit you for your birthday: "Webwork, you should eat more, please, have another piece of birthday cake, you are way too skinny!" "Why are you so skinny? What, do you want to waste away? Don't make me worry so much like this."
Giving me reasons to hit the bottle again eh? Some kind of friend you are. Malaria Awareness Day is always a hit every year. Bottoms up!
Does that mean the Jews can only celebrate their heritage in May? How about a euromutt heritage month? That way those of us with a mix of European heritage can have our own month too. I want my own month.
That would translate into caucasian heritage month...and everyone knows caucasian's can't have their own month - it would be "racist".
We had an Irish heritage day at work, they played music from Ireland, and it was a lot of fun. No one thought it was racist, that I am aware of. Most of the people where I work at are pretty bored, they would probably get excited about celebrating malaria awareness day as well.
Any real conservative would take issue with government sponsored collectivism. There have been some great Jewish Americans, and probably some trashy ones too. The same could likely be said about Catholic Americans, Russian Americans, Short Americans and Skinny Americans. What next will Genius George think up? I spoke too soon... So instead of May Day, now we are going to celebrate all of the people GWB has put in harm's way by creating fake evidence. You know you are living in Imperial Rome when the empire's most prestigious chickenhawk declares a holiday to recognize the conquering legions while they are mired down in an unwinnable conflict, and he is sapping the empire of blood and treasure before he steps down.
Personally, I think all the days, weeks, months celebrating the heritage of different people is wonderful. It's a chance to experience things I wouldn't normally experience in one sitting - food, music, dance, history, cultural events of all kinds. Shalom for May, all. Salaam for November, in Chicago - November is Arab Heritage Month.
It is. While I'm burned out on city life (woods and wilds kind of guy), it is a fantastically multicultural city. Each neighborhood boasts living treasures. Foood....don't get me started. Virtually any hour, something authentic and out of this world is available (except the loop - but never go there for food, generally, anyway - it's the neighborhoods where you find small shops, restaurants, cafes serving unbelievably great cuisine). You should come, great place.
Guerilla, you are a great writer. Anyway, you can wear a toga for loyalty day, if you believe we are in Rome, and celebrate in your own way. In the proclamation it recommends to celebrate by, "learning more about the history of our country, flying the American flag, and contributing to our communities."
I don't see the point in Nationalism and the flying flag stuff, it just divides more, rather than uniting beyond borders.
