I will soon be launching my site (not a blog) and would like your opinions: I intend on generating all my income from Private Ad Sales as this way seems to be where a lot of money can be made...I am aware that a site first needs substantial daily traffic to command good dollars but it seems that once a site has reached that level then the money can pour in. I intend on having several 125x125 buttons on the right of the main page as well as other banner ads. I do not wish to use Adsesnse because a) seems that their payouts aren't that great; b) they make the site look cheap and commonplace as every site has them these days. c) even though my site is not a blog - I notice that most of the big bloggers all use private ad sales instead of Adsense - so this must be in their interests to do so. I am confident that once I put in some effort my site will take off. My questions: 1. What level of traffic does a site need to be able to command decent private ad sales Eg say $1500+ 2. Once your site is established how easy is it to generate private ad sales Your personal experience and advice with private ad sales please.
1. You may need more than 30,000 Unique Visitors per day to make that amount, but as you are willing to sell ads directly, it all depends on how well your ad sells... 2. I think most important thing about private ad is that your site needs to be very popular and worth!

you will need boat load of traffic to get there. if you have an intention to make that kinda revenue form selling ad space, then you not only need flood of traffic, but you also need high page rank which is not possible for a new site. traffic and PR come over time. my suggestion would be to monetize your site with contexual ads along with affiliate programs (affiliate programs are my favs as they pay lot better than contextual ads). then once your site takes off and you have the desired visitos and PR, you can consider selling private ads. but if you have that much traffic, i believe you can make more with affiliate ads than private ads. you can browse BST section under link sale to get better idea on how much people are willing to pay on what kinda sites. and i assume you mean 1500/month?
i would say that earning money just through banner advertising is recommendable but just want to make you confirm that $1500 through only banner advertising is not at all advisable. Coz let us consider that you are earning $100 through a banner per month. Now you need to add 15banners and just imagine the site with 15 banners. Its really making your site look ackward. Just affiliate marketing on your niche. This will really help you to earn decent income.
However, you might want to start with a more realistic goal.
