Looking for the tittle of this movie from the late 70s...

I remember a movie from my childhood but I can only remember bits of it.

Sci-fi movie (late 70s) takes place in outer space.

A motley crew of various aliens help a kid to fight a villain in space. (...or something like that.)

One of the character's is a human cowboy who says things like "Howdy" and "Partner" a lot.

In one scene - the villain has captured a white-skinned alien and (for some reason) amputates the alien's arm and attaches it to his own body. The arm then takes on a life of its own and starts attacking the villain by choking him.

Does any of this ring a bell?

Not really not a big fan of 70s sci-fi movies but have you tried looking for them on google and IMDB?

I don't remember that one, but Galaxy Quest with Tim Allen sounds better.

That movie was not bad - but it would have been a lot cooler if they would have just used the original star trek cast instead of a a fake cast from a fictional TV program that was never really on the air. Still, Tim Allen was good.
