Perry Marshall is my guy, too. There are others, but I think he knows and understands more about the problems and intricacies than anyone else.

Sure, this is an unsolicited testimonial (rather than because I'm one of his affiliates, which I am NOT), but he is considered by many as the Numero Uno guru. Certainly I owe my own success with AdWords to what I've learned from him.

    Duncan :)

I've been in the PPC business for five year, and there were no mentors when I started. With that said, I give a copy of Perry Marshall's book, Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords, to all my new hires. The best book I've seen on setting up AdWords campaigns.

Once you get through that, however, the only good source of information is experience.

    • Forums like DP have a lot of good info, but also some bad info as well. Sometimes it's hard to know which is which.
    • Not many PPC focused blogs. Jennifer Slegg, however, has one with great PPC info mixed in with other unrelated post. I started one, but I'm only able to update it about once a month. Not enough to be useful for anyone.

I love DP, but I'm affraid that sometimes the info is wrong or paid for. Maybe someone is suggesting something that'll make them money and not really help you.

Chris McNeeney wrote Day Job Killer

The problem is that all the ebooks & training books (written in 2005/2006/2007) are maybe not so relevant today

I don't know why there is not a brilliant new thing out there to learn about adwords independently from google

There's nothing as good a experience 'in the trenches' but one of the best AdWords books has to be The Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords by Perry Marshall.

Newbies or the more experienced will find it helpful.

It covers a wide range of key AdWords topics, plus also looks at list building, some SEO basics, and ad copy tips and techniques.

    I highly recommend it.

You can find it on Amazon.

As far as mentors go, I would say a mentor is a good thing.

Most highly successful people, in any field, have had a mentor that helped them along the way.

    Perry Marshall stands out.

    cheers.

    Yep...Perry is the man.
But I think his guide came out before QS became such a big deal.

Dunno if he's updated it though.
