well u can check my traffic building list. Its hard to tell much without looking at the site though. Make sure you don't burn your fingers with adwords. You can very quickly loose all your money. SOmetimes its good to go slow.
I hate adwords, sorry to say this, Friends, I think only bad optimiser take this option. I have 10 webs bit never use adword.
I'll be honest with you, a lot of people get caught up in reinventing the wheel. Heck, I sorta did. I own a web hosting company which is also a severly overcrowded market (as is the match making industry right now) and the only way I've found to gain legitimate clients is through my other services of web development. Granted, its not a total flop, but you have to be prepared to offer something completely different or you will find yourself investing a lot of money with no return.

the php alligator is right-- this matchmaker area is overcrowded. so make some crazy, headline grabbing differentiation. Like a matchmaking site just for people with tattoos and piercings or something weird like that. then do a linkbait trick watch it hit the blogs and traffic go up...
I have a dating site... It's dog eat dog dude!!! At .17 - .20 per click, I can "usually" make a monthly profit. Some months are great, some are dead as a door nail. I can PM the link if you want to take a looksy, as I dont want to get into trouble for link dropping. I guess I can say that it is a TangoWire site though. I'm working on other means to promote it, other than PPC, by adding links to some of my other sites, etc... I just warn you, it isn't like the movie!!! In the "movie" they said... "Build it and they will come..." Be prepared to spend a few bucks to promote. Another suggestion, use a PPC called datingadvantage.com. (I am not affilliated or do not own this site, or even know who does.) I used them in the early days with pretty decent success. Don't bid for "top spot" though, but be sure you come up on position #4 for top spots. Good luck!!! Before anyone even asks, "Why did you quit using datingadvantage"? My response would be, damn good question? I'll have to re-visit them...
There are cheaper ways then google adwords. They do however take longer but the they will place your site in a good position on the google search engine that natural traffic will flow in.
