Thanks for the great information really helps out beginners trying to grasp SEO and signatures. On that note, I am having problems updating my signature on DP. I have the 10 posts, required rep and have been a member for months but still can't change my signature. Am i missing something?

It says your join date is April 2008.

I think you might need to wait longer in order for you to get a sig.

i do not agree with "google doesn't recognize a page as a forum. They only see it has a page. It has no more or less weight then any other page" i think google has a algorithm and simply understand it is a blog/forum etc. So google do not love signatures i think. But also i use it for adversite.

I have to disagree with some of what is said here. Yes thousands of sig links on DP pointing to a diet site may not benefit SERPs but signature links on relevant threads/forums with high PR and very few outbound links are going to help you.

And don't all rush to say that you are unlikely to find such threads because believe me it is possible and fairly easy to do if you know how.

The forum might well have decent page rank but the individual pages that the threads are on will hardly ever have page rank of their own.

It's page rank, not site rank.

There are a fair few threads with page rank >2 and therefore it's definately not a bad thing to have your link on that page.

Obviously a link on DP's homepage would do you better but sig links are better than nothing.

Every link helps, just some more than others. PR trickles down, from the site, to the page, and on to your sites.

Great post, really gets the point that forum sig links mainly benefit from quality potential traffic, not SERP advantage through backlinks.

I do agree with a lot of this info, but I must say i you have a sig link in a related forum it does make a difference - I have done tests and in some cases it DOES make a difference in the rankings...just my experience.

I see the Digital Point forum posts piling up at my Yahoo Site Explorer link count.

If they're counted as "links" by Yahoo, chances are that means Google is seeing them as well???

I have a forum about poker and therefore posting on poker forums won't do crap for me. I mainly just get clicks thru the competition I am running and just general curiosity. The small google juice that is there is definately worth it.

Signature links are good for traffic not much help for Seo. The value of link is so low you can get more from a few links from sites related to topic.

Is posting on blogs better than posting or forums or are they the same as far as link juice and traffic?
