    1) DMOZ can take months and months, and there is no guarantee you'll be included.
    2) Yahoo and other reputable places (business.com, etc.) sell that your site will be looked at and if appropriate, listed quickly. It's not technically buying a link. That's my understanding.

With dmoz you're site needs to be quality, they don't see any point in even adding sites that are equal quality to ones already listed.

I agree. I have submitted quite a few sites to dmoz and only ever had my own SEO site accepted.

A yahoo directory listing is definetely one to get. Its actually a paid review which is obviously valued by google and other SE's. I guess to a degree it is a paid link but its down to the trust of the site providing the link, which in this case is one of the most powerful sites on the web so has to be of significant value.

Even if you pay for a Yahoo listing, its still no guarantee that it will be listed, Yahoo still can refuse because of poor quality and you won't get a refund.

With DMOZ it takes months, sometime years to get listed (unless you know someone that works there!) Once you are listed, you can then apply for different categories. Your site does need to be quality to be listed.

Yeah - if you don't have quality content they quickly dump your submission. If that happens try a different category as the editors are different.

Don't give up though, DMOZ is the must have link for any and every site.

DMOZ is the best way to get traffic but takes time and you also know about how to submit in DMOZ and Yahoo otherwise choose any SEO firms.

Traffic from DMOZ? What are you talking about?

Most sites that have been listed for years rarely get any traffic what-so-ever. Web Surfers have, for the most part, stopped using directories, and if they are using them, they are certainly using higher quality ones then the ODP. Maybe you'll get a few other webmasters clicking into your site looking at their competition, or maybe you'll get an editor or two looking in to see if they think your site is listable... but honestly, neither case is quality traffic.

At the slow pace that DMOZ now runs, they are not even quickly spidered by most search engines now so you can not even rely upon it as a means of getting indexed quickly.

On top of that, they have hundreds of DMOZ clones out there, and as most of us should know, duplicate content is a HUGE no-no for most SE's out there (including DMOZ itself, lol) so there are filters and/or penalties on most of it's extra links as well.

All in all, an ODP listing is worth no more or less then any other link...

ODP listing is very effective - because ODP is a human edited directory, just like Yahoo. If you have money for directory submissions - these are 2 directories you want to be listed at first thing
