Can someone explain how this works? I see there's a free version available too, what does the paid version offer that's better?
$25 with phplinkdirectory link present $75 if you want to get that link removed. So not necessary to get the $75 one.
It works by allowing you to setup your own categories and accept submissions, either free or paid submissions, the choice is yours. You can do all types of other things too, but generally its offering you the chance to run a directory, without needing to know how to build a website from scratch.
is not that bad to link to them, they offer a script for us to build our directories at least that is we can do, link back to them. The version 3 from phpld is the greatest version, you can see full features in hyper's first post. I have version 3 and i like it. I have managed to build a directory that gets a lot of traffic. Hope you will enjoy'it!
According to some reputable members on here phpld are getting targeted by Google so perhaps its almost compulsory to get rid of the attribute?
Like winning the lottery, it could happen. I have my own views on this matter - and they all boil down from David's decision to release a (completely) free version of phpLD. In my opinion, although releasing a free version inevitably increased sales of the paid-for versions from those who wanted 'something extra', the free versions have brought down the integrity of phpLD, in my opinion. Whether or not those using the script, in my opinion, would be punished remains synonymously polar.
It isn't me saying it, I just recalled someone mentioning it. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=7501670&postcount=11 Just like Spider-Man I have my own theories on the subject, most of it based on the abuse of PR at one time by people who used that particular script. It may not have been the scripts fault but it was still associated with the so called abuse. Its not beyond the realms of possibility Mike, after all phpld is the only script that I'm aware of that Matt Cutts ever mentioned? I may be wrong on that one though?
You fail when you: 1. have not been in directories long enough to research anything on them 2. haven't even experimented with anything I would no ever bring up such a strong and bold statement without ever experimenting and finding out anything. So to remark of 'plain stupidity' would in fact be ignorant on ones part if they've never dug into experimentation first. (and or course experimenting takes a good 3-4 updates, a lot of time(which you severely lack), as well as continuous and progressive tracking)
I think phpLD is the most spread. Targeting what they all ( the majority ) have in common is easier for Google.
Call me stupid, ignorant or plain retarded. I fail to see why Google would program their algorithm to hit a script that could be changed within a day. Do they target wordpress MFA blogs? Do they target youtube scripts that make money from abusing their service? Do they target phpLinkBid which offers instant link approval? Do they target forums like phpBB which users could gain free links with? Do they target esyndicat, phpLynx or site-sift which work in the same way as phpLD? @Jamie, yes Matt Cutts did mention phpLD when on the topic of AvivaDirectory and reciprocal links on the submit form. What he said about phpLD was actually wrong, which makes me wonder if he's looked into the script properly - which I don't think he has. That was one of my reasons for thinking it hasn't been targetted. If phpLD was targetted I'd expect the majority of these crappy general directories to be de-indexed or had a SERP penalty placed upon them. But then again, I don't think a robot is up to the job of evaluating directories which is why we had the great Sunday of September where the google spam team (humans) penalised a bunch of directories.
why would they target the tool used to build a website? they may use it to detect directories then evaluate/review them. but penalizing a site just for using a certain script is 'plain stupid'
for reference, I'll refer to things as script a and script b: They aren't being penalized(like the September penalty, or whatever people called it). Certain characteristics are being stripped from sites using the script a. I've run this through the course of over a years time(approx 16months) now and on domains with pr ranging from 0-6 with the same results. With the same thing being tested on only one other script, the results are completely opposite. Upon taking several of the domains used with script a, and replacing it with script b, script b's characteristics, which are the same as script a for some reason do not take the same hit and script a. I guess you can just call me crazy. edit: - I also forgot to mention that versions tested on were 3.06-3.2 with a 3.3 still pending the outlook which will probably take another 3-5 months from now.
