Truth--there are so many talented and creative people on this site who do Google's bidding day after day in the name of chasing down those ever elusive dollars. Imagine what would happen if all you geniuses stopped using Google, and created your own search engine that served your needs. Google's death would not only not be slow and painful, it would be almost immediate. Chew on that for a while and then do something about it.
I have an idea which could kill google, but it would be impossible to put into action with out the $$$$$, I think you would need to get a patent or something like that to stop anyone copying you idea before it even has chance to get popular.
yeah Altavista was huge 10 years ago, I think it was on the similar scale as Google is today. And Yahoo even used the Altavista search option back then. So anything possible.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but to get good search results you need lots of searches done on your site which google has and not many other people do
Ten years ago the web was a different place. It truly was the wild west where anything could happen. These suggestions of how to kill G with a different search engine will never work. They own the search engine space and can never now be displaced. They can be killed. They will be killed. All things come to pass. But another search engine will never be the means. G will be slain when search engines become irrelevant. When the rules change completely because the Internet changes. Some little startup will come out of nowhere and bury them and all the other dinosaurs. That is the only way to slay the giant.
This would not work; Google has several hundred datacenters. In the 50's could anyone believe General Motors would be overtaken? Somone is always gunning for number 1.
I agree with you. If the leading two major SE's are not enough to even touch Popularity of 10% of Google than how another new SE could get... Impossible to kill Google...
i do not think google will "fade away" like the other search engines. altavista, lycos, etc, were big, but relative to the other search engines not as far ahead as google is now. nothing even comes close to google at the moment. google has expanded into other areas as well (gmail, adwords/adsense, google maps), which have also become huge in their own respective fields. google is way ahead of the rest of the search engine field - but it has also become dominant in other aspects
- The cost of indexing has increased as the size of the internet as increased. It has become more difficult, not less, to compete with Google. - The MS/Yahoo merger will waste the time of both companies as Google keeps plowing forward. - The distributed nature of Google's data centers makes even the bomb scenario difficult to pull off. - Google keeps refining their algorithm while everyone else is waking around. They average more than 1 change to it per day. - The commonly accepted estimate is that Google owns 70% of the search market in North America. I think most webmasters see a much higher percentage of search engine traffic. - Yahoo might just give up search entirely and focus on communities, news and other things which it is the leader.
Big G will die. But no where in the near future. Most of their strongest competitors put together right now, cannot even touch g. There's still a long long time. But it will happen.
why do you think it will die?? I see no reason why G dies considering they are being very honest with their work
