Anyone know how to install limewire and other P2P applications on linux VPS server? I've never installed anything on my VPS as I've just run websites so far. I assume I would have to get into shell(putty)? If anyone can help me out that would be great, I haven't been able to find much help from doing google searches. I know linux can run limewire as people are doing it on their servers, as well as other P2P's.
It cannot be done without a graphical interface on it. Also, providers don't really allow P2P software, especially the one that provides access to illegal files.
do you want to try P2P activities on your VPS ? or jsut install limewire ? so you can use torrentflux to download or seed torrents with user-friendly web interface .
If i remember correct limewire comes with .bin file and you ll just give chmod +x to .bin and you will run it via ./asdasd.bin
gui is java based, if you gonna try it via vpn it will use a lot, you should find a console based one.(i do not use torrents but i saw loads)
Even if you manage to install it. Check with your host and ask if it's allowed. Because either two things can happen, the ports are filtered/blocked and you won't be able to use it with default settings. And/Or you get caught trying to use it, and get suspended.
