Well actually I already have a site (PR3). I just want to add free Directory section in it. I will still add Directory into my site even if I won't make money with it. But I just wanna know how are these people are making money from their directories. Might as well do it. Directory will only cater to specific niche (gambling). well there is two type of ideas for moneytizing directory sites one involves yellow pages and cold calling b2b leads (that was shown in other wickedfire webmaster forum) other is easy build 100 or 140 directory .. outsource the work for directory submission social bookmark submission all.. so that they rank somewhat good in search engines.. wait for google pr update.. now sale guranteed link on 140 directories with pr2 pr3 pr4 for only one time fee 20$ dp and other webmaster forum members will fall in their knees and buy the listing from you hire 2 full time employee to manage all this order and listing.. register your firm as seo web development firm get a trade license and income tax certificate... check your bank and regularly pay the 2 employees.. small business plan

AdSense/Adbrite - or, charging extra for premium placement. Really not easy though. As I've said many times before, differentiation is very important - what makes you different from the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of other directories out there?
They might be using Google Adsense or banner ads. Apart from these, premium submissions can make money for directory as well.
it depends on your location if you are in india starting a seo web development firm with 10 employee (full time) is big continous business model and residual income for life. if you are in usa canada uk aus or rich countries.. then the case might be different.. i dont know what income level you are targating.. but lets say you make 50 K USD a year with 2 employee..(u can hire students part timers) you have always option to expand from this stage and make 200k a year doing full time web business imagine you have 500 directories after 1 year.. and all have pr1 pr2 pr3 pr4 status u can just use them for your own link building and make any site of ur own no 1 in google and take 10k USD in your bank
