Hi All't.. My site got deleted by some technical fault I guess. I was trying to upgrade to 2.5.1 Got upgraded sucessfully, but when I went to admin, to update database, I think a new installation overrode my old installation. Now I can even login and all my blog contents has been deleted. I can't do forgot password either, it is not accepting my email. What I have is, I still have several cache in my folder.. Can I use my cache to restore my site? I don't know what to do.. EVen if I use my cache if I can't login to my WP account, don't I have to delete the whole DB and create a new installation? How to use the cache in the new installation... Please help My problem... My back up is quite old..
How do i know that... The WP database is there.. I have checked the themes file, and it has all the changes that I had made.. i don't know where I can see my posts .. Can we chat? The /wp-content/uploads/ folder is also intact.. i am sure my posts are still there
But the folder into which I will install already has a wordpress installation.. i don't know how to overide..
Just delete wp-include and wp-admin, ftp up the new files and then go to the upgrade script, thats basically it.
Any idea where the password is stored? If I have access to the shell I should be able to view it I guess.... And one more question.... DO i just have to FTP up the WP-include and wp-admin or the whole hog..
What exactly doesn't work? Firstly be calm. With all that frustration nothing will work trust me. Delete the wp admin and wp includes folder, upload these two folders from your new 2.5.1 zip download. Secondly your posts should be fine. You might have to restore the database again, and its really not an issue at all. Let us know here if you need any help at all.
Thanks everyone... Restored the site and is working fine now... Even though the theme got screwed up.. Will fix that today PHEW.. It was one of my good sites... a 20 dollar a day from adsense site... Thanks everyone Stupid me forgot to take a back up in 1 month... and my last backup was about 40 pages short.... Repped Everyone who replied...
Congrats and its really is good to hear! Twenty dollar a day? Whoa! How many ads are there in the site? How many impressions daily? Tell us the secret damn it.
Just a side note for those dealing with Dreamhost databases. There is a "recycled bin" feature within the control panel so if you accidentally delete your database, there is a chance to restore it from the "trashcan" in the short-term.
Blogspotter, did you contact Dreamhost support team? I do have a Dreamhost and a Hostgator accounts I made 2 blogs with exactly the same themes and content on Dreamhost and Hostgator as I wanted to check the loading time Result : the WP blog on Hostgator was loading 5 times quicker than the same WP blog on Dreamhost This issue + the last 12 hours downtime at Dreamhost => I'm moving all my new projects with WP to Hostgator
You know I never noticed that until the first time I actually needed it (and spent about 20 minutes freaking out before I saw what was right in front of my eyes.)
Actually I did but I got impatient, and did a lot of things.. About dreamhost, I was thinking of taking a rakespace account, but maybe I will see hostgator as well.. I see some good reviews for thier Dedicated Servers... I will take a shared account and give it a try... About Dreamhost, they have been pretty reliable, and I have a few accounts with them.. Some I took because the offers were good, one I bought when I bougth a site from a friend.. And I am just so used to the interface for my shared hosting needs..
I only monetise with adsense.. I didn't even add kontera coz the ecpm is very low.. I am waiting to get it listed on dmoz so I haven't put any banner ads for CPM.. because then it would be too full of ads... Actually I can squeeze the site dry... but I have left some ad spots free because I really get some good visitors and don't want to spoil them.. 8000 Plus PV Thanks.. I did just that..
Curious coincidence, when it happened to me get a mistakenly deleted database I didn't realize it at first glance either, LOL
