    Hello Eveybody,

How are you all? Hope well. I am well too ;)

I am here to listen your views and advice on choosing my future.

I am currently working in an outsourcing firm as a SR Web Developer in India. I am also doing freelancing work from home.

Now I've decided to go for one from them. I have managed both with around 17-18 hours/day work for 1 years but I really need to get rid of it so I want to go with one.

I have always seen a dream to develop own company but I am confused now :(.

Nowadays I am earning same income from both the resources but I need to work 8-10 hours at my company while I am getting same income with 4-5 hours work from Home.

I am having a list of good clients who are impressed with my work and giving me some regular work. Some are coming after 1 month, some are after 3 months etc..

My regular day job is giving me a fixed amount of Income and having increment at every 1 year but I think I am earning more from freelancing work from last 3-4 months.

Now I am confused to go with which thing b'coz there may be a fear in my mind that If I choose freelancing then will I get continuous Income? Definitely I will do hard work for it. What's the future of it and what's the future of my regular job?

People please help me and let me know suggestions and advices.
    All queries are most welcome.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Indian

I'd say work from home, but if you're open to other options... well, I'd suggest that you establish your own business.

Keep your regular job until you have enough freelance work set up on the side - Does your regular job let you work from home?

    Nice Question ..
As everything else in this world, there are pros and cons of working at home or working for some company.

    Working for a company ..

    Pros ...
#1 - You get a chance to meet a lot of people, so, you get a better chance to socialize your life.
#2 - Recognition when you achieve your targets and get promoted.
#3 - You really work in those 8 hours. You know, you've got to work and deliver the BEST.
#4 - You live a balanced life. When you are at home, you really understand the value of home and vice versa.

    Cons ...
#1 - You get into a busy schedule, if you have other commitments like taking care of your family, your work may disturb your personal life.
#2 - If you do not get promotion for x,y,z reasons, job starts becoming headache and creates depression OR you start cutting out on your personal life and work more to get recognition and promotion.
#3 - After working hard, one day you start feeling like an ass. You work smart/hard and your employer keeps all the profit ;)

    Working from Home (Freelancer) ...

    Pros ...
#1 - You are your own boss!
#2 - You keep all the profit!!
#3 - More time and brain you invest, better the growth and profits!!!

    Cons ...
#1 - you are 24 hours involved into your work, yet you dont get a chance to sit before computer because of various reasons like .. bf/gf, husband/wife, kids, parents, other domestic work, etc.
#2 - Day is not day anymore, Nights are no longer nights lol ..
#3 - No matter how much you work, you are never satisfied. Even at 4 am you think, may be I can pull another hour and then probably sleep for 4 hours and wake up by 9 and then I can take care of couple of domestic concerns which are at the top of TO DO list.
#4 - You have to ask other people at home what day of the week it is, what is the date today, lost and confused lol
#5 - DP becomes your family (j/k) and your real friends are nowhere around you. Your social life gets a Big Dip.

LOL correct me if I'm wrong :D
May be there are other Pros and Cons, other members can add to this list above..

    Andy.

Why not do both? When you know you can get a stable flow of work and earn enough simply quit your job.

Working from the home has more options and you are the master to decide when to do and what to do. But it has its own perils like no constant income (may increase or decrease) and requires a lot of hard work. But the regular day job will guarantee your monthly salary but offers no scope for improvement in the short term.
If you are very confident of your skills and earning potential from the freelancing, it is time to say "I Quit" for the day job :D

Thanks Mate. It'll really help me a lot. Appreciated !!

I don't want to do both as I am losing my social network and family relations as didn't get much time for that and in India social life matters a lot.

Thanks mate. I am quite confident about my skills so I can think about leaving the day job.

Thats all coming from my personal experience

@MightyB: What about peeps living around you? They prolly gonna think you are Money-machine lol. Always Busy and tired. Its pretty hard to keep up with both + family + social life.

@Indian: Its not only income as I see in your case, there are more important things. Whatever you do, DO NOT cut-out on your sleep and try to keep your work-room a little isolated from the TV and crowded areas at your home :D
This is a serious advice .. Find the MOST isolated room in your house and thats where you should work. Dont go working 10 hours in a stretch. Invest a couple of hours and then leave work to give yourself some break and other family members will like it as they will see you couple of times in a day and wont feel that you are invisible lol. Get back to your work in 15-30 mins. The whole idea is to stick with those 8 hours work that you should carry out otherwise, you will feel that you are not doing justice to your work.

Having your office, apart from your home, is what you should do. Office has different “air” from home.

Hmm, if I were you, I wouldn't had quit my day job. I'd just build a company in my part time and build lots of long term clients and then quit. Wait for some more time, build a company and get lots of clients and when you think you'll be earning good enough, quit your daily job.

It totally depends on you. If you are willing to do a lot of hard work and you are committed to work, you can give freelancing a try (full-time). Many people on DP are doing it full-time and earning quite well. But you should be confident of yourself that you can choose this as your full-time profession.

Best of luck for your future! :)

Well, Its all about prioritizing whats more important. The best part about freelancing or any Home business is that you can assign your own hours for work. You can work 4 hours and make good money which also depends upon your skills to pull clients. Secondly, you can employ someone to carry out more work. If you can get someone from your family to help you with your freelancing work, nothing can match that.

It is not about you being confident about your skills. It is about how much faith others have in you.

Can you market yourself well ? In a competitive business online, that is a must.

If you are asking the " should I " question in the first place, it probably indicates that you aren't sure about the income you are to earn.

Keep your regular job, save a bit, and when you feel you are ready to quit, do so.

I'd say get a regular job, you can always go freelancing when things don't work out.
