Is Google Analytics accurate?

Does Google Analytics give a pessimistic count of the number of visitors to a website?

For one of my sites it always seems to report about 2/3 the number of visitors that AWStats does.

I have heard the similar buzz before. I just signed up with analytics today. I currently use histats so I'll be comparing that with analytics by tomorrow. I really hope they are the same.

Well, Google analytics is pretty accurate, better then the default awstats installation that you have when you buy a webhosting.

Awstats is sure a powerfull tools but when you have it trough a webhosting account, it seems that they are pften big problems.

I am not saying that awstats isn't a powerfull tools, I am just saying that the self-installed perl version is way more accurate.

    Thanks godsofchaos.

Post back what you find out please. Analytics seems to lag a couple of days so you may have to wait until Sunday or Monday to get the stats for today.

How did you find out the true visitor count? I'd be interested in more accurate results for my sites.

I do use Phpmyvisites. Although, It can be risky if people disactivate their javascript.

Google analytics is really, really acurate, but i don'T feel ok with giving them so muh information, so I do use phpmyvites, wich is a powerfull open-source script:

Google Analytics is fairly accurate but it will never be 100% because it uses a technology (in this case JavaScript) which can be switched off by your visitors.

The only way to get true visitor counts is by looking at your web server log files and AWStats is the best available at the moment IMO.

Google Analytics is normally quite accurate, but for the last few weeks has been acting wacky.

I'm not sure if it's because I have been using the new tracking code (ga.js instead of urchin.js).

I find that Google Analytics tends to run pretty much in step with my StatCounter numbers. Google Analytics might give numbers that are just slightly lower than StatCounter, but it is consistently close.

AWSTATS is not as accurate as Analytics.

if you know nay thing about tracking awstats counts when images are display don pages refreshed, so they give a whole bunch of extra hits...

I usually setup analytics and statcounter, that way I can compare and see the differences.
No statistics system is 100% acurate

google analytic! wow it's so good and easy to use than any other traffic tracking tool. One more reason for it's global reputation is that it belongs to google and moreover free to use. you can get the traffic stats as much older you want...which is not possible in any other tool.
