Advice needed

I used to work for a man that ran a scam web development company. I quit and moved two states away to live with my girlfriend. Some of his customers that he ripped off called me and asked me to testify against him. I also stuck up for their rippoffreports. Now,t he man is going all over the place saying that I never deliver my products, that I keep the money from my customers and that I beat kids.

What should I do?

Should I totally ignore? Should I shut down my domain and start a new one? Should I take legal action?

 

So Michael David Mann is the con artist here. What a story. Can pass for a NYP Blues, Criminal Minds episode, what have you?

My first impression was, "Man, are you a saint or are you just plain idiot?" Sorry, but how in heaven's name did you manage to be with that man for the second time after being threatened and abused by him mentally, physically and financially for more than 24 months (3 years you said, right?)? Knowing how "irresponsible" he is as a father and as an employer? Twisted is more like it, based on the way he treated his family, you and his clients.

So there's no question the man has some psychological problem. Did you say he spent 10 years in jail for conning someone? And now he's doing it to you and to many others on the internet. Or he's been doing it to you but you just said, "Okey. I'm still alive. There's no harm in giving him another chance."

If you only said, "No, it's enough, I've had enough of you," he would have not been able to further the damage he has caused you. But alas! Maybe it's a blessing in disguise and maybe THIS TIME he'll get his lessons. He's clearly and abuser, a deceitful person, a kind of scam personified. Somebody must put a stop to his crimes. But before that happens, somebody must take action to spread his evil works and warn others - guess who he is.

So, it's good that you've come out. It's good that finally you learn to be brave and start taking a stand. I heard it somewhere: "There are no victims; only those willing to be victimized."

Whether you shutdown your domain or not, be sure to continue on your fight. You may not be able to gain back the money you've lost or those of his online victims, but sure you can prevent more losses, not only in terms of money, if you blow the whistle and aware the others of his dark secrets, his dark intentions.


Why not pray also? It helps ease the tension.

 

I don't really know, my friends said that I was just desperate for attachment after my divorce and my mom says I never met someone I didn't like.... which I disagree with, but see her point. I try to see the best in everyone.

See, he had gone through rehab and what-not and I thought he changed. The people at RMG, our previous employer told me to watch my back, I should have taken that more seriously.

I have many domains, perhaps I will write software under a nom de plum. Thank you for your advice and wisdom, I have food for thought to ponder.

 

Oh, there's just too many people in this world to be cautious about. Even if you drive safely, some will not and that causes accident, you know what I mean? But I always believe in the Law of Thermodynamics: to every action there's always an equal and opposite reaction. And that passage in the Bible: you reap what you sow. It may not be now but someday that man will get what he deserves. Even then, I think he needs help. Let's just hope he'll meet someone who could provide it to him that no one will be futher hurt or victimized again.

As for you, do not let this incident get you. Just be happy that you're still in one piece and could afford to start all over again. I think you're a good person because you try to see the goodness in people, but don't trust easily. Don't go looking for instant gratification either. You might do well to live on your own slowly picking up the pieces - make yourself whole again... and learn to learn from the past. Don't go chasing the rainbows if you will fall off the mountain.

You'll be fine. You have a great talent others like me only wish to have - make use of that to recover and make a difference. Then you'll feel good.

You can take legal action look up information on libel, or slander. I'm not sure which is the case in your scenario. I would take legal action because this is unfair to you.

It really sucks that you can't trust anyone - after working online for a while and getting scammed a few times I go into every deal with skeptisism and tons of research - really turns you into a cynic

I know how that is. I talked to him today and we came to a truce and he is even sending my star trek collection back to me. I am glad to have the drama in the past. I guess looking for the best in a person is not bad, as long as you keep a little guard up. He apologized and such, and it takes a strong person to do that. Will I be cautious? Of course. Now, the main thing to do, is not fully trust someone. Especially this guy who said he forgave you.

Or maybe I should point out that he repaid the man he stole from and blamed me. Or post the police report regarding the theft of our company laptop.
