Forum Back Links and Google ....

Discussion in 'Google' started by drgeorgep, Apr 23, 2008.

Hi ... I had several hundred back Links, across 11 forums and with varying anchor text, until the other day. Now, among about 5000 google-reported inks, I can only find 31 forum back links and each of these is to the same url, a deep PR4.

Is this a google stumble, which rectifies itself, eventually, or are forum back links being expired, quickly?

    Thanks.

A very interesting observation. I was wondering about something along that line of thinking.

I took a quick look at some Google links and quickly found one indexed from 2 months ago and one from post from 2005.

Google does not show all of your backlinks, so this may be a normal occurance.
However, sometimes google will show less links if they are punishing you for
    duplicate content.

Hi ... kingofsanda, in this instances, what might constitute "duplicate content"? Anchor text? The forum messages are mostly different, except for the typical "Please pm details. Thanks" that we all use, often. Also, guess I'd never know if this was some form of punishment or not. Thanks.

I see lot of back links from DP in webmaster tools.

Anyway, links from forums are not quality backlinks.

Why do you say that. I see increases in SERPs with 1 DP forum link, with an on topic title.

you can try google webmaster tools. it shows most of your backlinks.

and if your site includes webmaster content, a backlink from dp is one the best backlinks.

Still check in Google webmaster tools, i found hundreds of links from forums.
That's cool. these all links are going to count, just the problem is that Google does not show all in SE.

I would be inclined to agree with this sentiment. In recent times, it seems to me that if anything, Google is becoming less picky about the location of links.

A few hundred signature links will serve you very well.

Which tool are you using to check this in the Webmaster Tool dashboard?

Hi ... thanks for the great input. Maybe google is punishing me, for some unknown reason, of course, by expiring all but a few of my forum links. Stranger stuff has emanated from google. Again, thanks.

Are they actual links in the post or are they signature links?

I'm sure their algorythm is good at filtering these links out... With that said, use webmaster tools to get the full story on your links...

The question is "Would their rankings be improved by filtering these links out"".

I would say yes to the signature links but no the the forum links. The majority of time forum links point to useful content.
