Laptop Gets REALLY Hot! Anything that can help?

I work on my laptop for a few hours each day, taking breaks to do other things. I originally had Vista on this but formatted to Ubuntu in hopes that the heat issue would be solved... hey, who knows, right?
Anyway, it didn't help. The fan runs at times, but it doesn't seem to cool it down. It even gets hot when it's unplugged.

It's an HP dv2315nr Egg Fryer

(the Egg fryer bit was a joke)

But is there some type of cooling accessory I can buy that would help?
All I'm running is Firefox and a word processor! It really shouldn't be getting this hot!

Don't need that, just put a pen beneath the laptop so that there is air gap between the laptop and the table, this is sufficient for air circulation.

This is a hardware problem so changing your operating system wouldn't do anything. As for a cooling accessory, a cooling pad is the only thing I can think of.

I just figured with all the junk that Vista came with, the less that would run, the better off I am. I have noticed that my computer hasn't been working as hard.

Cooling pad would help. Also if it shuts down frequently you may have an issue.

I've got a cooling pad and my laptop never gets hot. They can be bought pretty cheaply as well. Or you could use a pen but that just sounds like a dodgy solution to me!

Either you can elevate the laptop off of the surface, or you can get a cooling pad, also you get get one of those ice things you freeze in the freezer, take out and put under your laptop.

Yeah, I would imagine it is especially if you were to use the laptop 24/7, or even more than 8 hours, and especially it may take up freezer space and annoying configuration of putting under laptop and what... so yeah it does sound like a pain in the ass :p

you can buy a cooling pad with 4 fans. The pad can easily cool the Laptop even while working on it more than 8 hours.
