its so stupid, why didnt they create names that the average indian can understand and why did they have to try to make them so western sounding and so commercial

it wud be nice to have delhi rajas or delhi sheres or some hindi word

Dude, they paid millions to crickets to play for them and they have all the rights to choose their teams name, nothing wrong in that, all team names are cool.

Well IPl is featuring an International players and ICC and BCCI want to promote it world wide. So it is good to have western type name.

I've asked it just yesterday in a thread:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=7498182#post7498182

I've thought those were just translations at first, but to me, it looks very inappropriate. India is a giant unique culture, not one of those tiny in the middle of nowhere islands, i'm sure they have great names to use instead.

ur wrong, with this mentality ur just as naive as most indians

you think americans would name thier teams in hindi

do you think chinese would name their teams in english

you think arabs would name their teams in non arabic names?

people have pride in their heritaage/languages and culture...except a lot of indians these days trying to be tooo western

if its international, thats more of a reason to make the names indian, to give them identy and pride..its a INDIAN LEAGUE

the world has enough english team names like this...the losers like SRK are just dumb and want to copy everything like the NHL and US LEAGUE TEAMS....just like bollywood and hollywood, then indians complain when ppl make fun of them for trying to hard

you'll probably name your kids joe, laura, bob and jill
good for u, hope u learn one day

That's what IPL is all about "International Players Lottery" It has to be international so the names look so international.
And there is no problem with an average indian understanding the names ? Isn't it so ?

You already told the names are commercial...
IPL is 100% business but not a sport!
So don't expect names in hindi with a business...

They were always going to market it to the max with extravagant names with the amounts of money that are involved in the IPL.
