Internet Browsers

Hello. What are all the browsers that are used mainly on the Internet. I need a list of them all and all the versions that are used regulary. So I can see what my sites look like in all of the browsers.

Please help me out.

IE and Firefox account for 95%+ of browser usage.

From my 250,000 uniques this month the browser stats are as follows -

Internet Explorer - 58.4 %
Firefox - 37.7 %
Opera - 1 %
Safari - 0.8 %
Netscape - 0.7 %
Mozilla No - 0.4 %

So 96.1% use IE or Firefox.

 

I would like to know what versions of them browsers are used. So I can download all the versions that are used.

 

Not sure you can download some of the old Ie browsers anymore

Most people use - IE6 or IE7 and FF1.5 or FF2.0.

 

So far I have IE7, IE8, FF2 Latest, and I am now getting FF3 Beta.

Anymore. I will try and get IE6.

 

Maybe I'd try to create FF3 Beta. I haven't really tried it yet. So far for me the best browser is still Firefox 2. I hate IE.

 

This W3C test result tabulation lists just about every Graphical Browser release available. Most are now obsolete or seldom used, the tabulation is just for general information.

Browser Shots is a great utility for checking your pages in multiple Browsers.

Damn, all my saved applications and add ons have been deleted from FireFox now. I guess I can add them again anyways.

I have deleted FireFox 3 beta now. When the final version comes out, it will update automatically won't it?

I have IE7/8, it lets me choose which to use. That's great.

I tried getting IE6, however it said I already have an updated version so I cannot have a downgraded version. How will I test in IE6/5?

Also I have just downloaded Opera. Anymore like this?

 

I believe IE6 and IE7 and Firefox are the most common. As far as I know you can't have 2 versions of the same browser installed on your PC for different browsers testing.

If what you need is to test your web design in different browsers, I would recommend you browsershots.org , it generates screenshots of how websites appear at different resolution sizes in six commonly used web browsers and different versions.

My IE7 and IE8 have sort of combined. When I open IE it as a button basically asking if I want to use IE7, or IE8 which is rather handy.

 

Opera 9 and Safari 3 are 2 most people have left out, and you should always check on them. (Safar is what most Mac users use.)

Some people are still stuck with IE5.5 or IE6, so you should get them, IE8 Beta is pointless to test in since their is so much uncompleted.

Firefox 2 is also very widely used, a minority of web users that use Linux w/KDE as an OS, use Konqueror as a web browser (you need to download a different OS to test with it though, so don't be too fussed. You may be able to get KHTML based browsers for Windows)

Also you know with IE8 beta. My forums are messed. Is this because the browser is not completed yet?

 

You'll never know if it's IE8 or you-- that's why you don't test in it. It's "unfinished".

I test in FF1.5 (because I have trouble upgrading to FF2 on Linux machine), Konqueror 3-something (Linux), opera 9 on both machines, FF2, Tredosoft IE's and IE7 on Windows, Safari 3 for Windows, Lynx (text-only browser), JAWS (Windows-only screen reader), MAGic (Windows only screen magnifyer... not the most useful testing tool except when you're testing design and colours).

Those are my minimum test group. I don't test every single page in MAGic or JAWS, just a site overall when I think it's done (because I look at the page with CSS and images off all the time.... usually that's what JAWS will read).

I don't test FF3 or IE8 because they're beta. Beta means, you take a web page you already know is awesome and works in all stable browsers, and then whatever looks funky in teh betas, you report to the teams still working on those browsers. Although FF3 is a lot further ahead in development than IE8.

 

The only browser I have seen problems with is IE8 so far. I guess that is nothing to worrie about yet.

Also I have a question. IE and Safari makes websites look blury, and rubbish looking. Where as FF, and Opera makes websites look so clear and display them nicely.

Dose anyone know why?

 

IE8 doesn't have many features yet, such as :hover implemented:

I guess it might be due to the fact it's in development. I will just have to wait.

 

Don't worry about IE 8 just yet. Only start testing in it when it reaches Release Candidate Status. As for older versions of IE, you can get them here: http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE (no hacks required)

Konqueror 4.0 will be available for Windows when it's released later this year.

No problem. As for IE and Safari being blurry, check to see if you have ClearType rendering enabled in IE. As for Safari, there's nothing you can do - that's the Mac interface at work. Macs tend to be geared towards print work whereas PCs are set up for working on the computer (strange, but true).
