I have looked through most of the themes at wordpress.org (I guess it's themes.wordpress.net actually) and have tried several of them that I liked, however all of the ones that I have tried are lacking in several areas. I have to manually make them accept tags, some are not widget ready, or they give errors in one area or another within the dashboard because they are simply not compatible with the latest version of Wordpress. On a slightly related note, many of the ones out there simply suck, as in they are a basic template converted to WP with some paid footer links and offer no perks what-so-ever...though I guess that is to be expected *sigh* I've looked at a few other theme sites, though none of the ones I've looked at give an option for searching by WP version. Where is the best place to find current themes for WP 2.5? Failing that, is there any good tutorial sites so I can take the multitudes of crappy/incomplete themes and fix them? Thank you, Q
95% of the themes for wordpress 2 is actually compatible with wordpress 2.5. There is no one site which denotes the themes by version of wordpress...they will go nuts if they do that... however... you should check out the themes of smashing magazine... or themes of adii n gardener or mark or small potato. They are awesomely coded so you will have no prob with them.
Try: www.wpthemesfree.com www.wpthemespot.com www.ndesign-studio.com/resources/wp-themes/ www.wpskins.org www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/01/08/100-excellent-free-high-quality-wordpress-themes/ ( my recommendations r for ndesign studio and smashing magazine)
You can start looking for themes at this WordPress themes gallery. Most of the themes featured there are WordPress 2.5 compatible and W3C compliant. Good luck!
As you are promoting your website (sponsored by adsense and e-junkie) you could provide 2 (blank) links on your site for each theme you display: demo / download I know, it's a bit of work as sometimes links can change...
The official list is here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Themes/Theme_Compatibility/2.5 But like mentioned above, most themes designed earlier will work in 2.5 anyway...
Thanks everyone for the links and advice... keep them coming if you can. I've thus far gotten all the ones I've liked from there (the codex), though I started two new blogs since then and now most of the ones I've liked do not support the fancier options in 2.5. I've manually added tags to my existing blogs, but was hoping to cop out and find them already updated... I have found that many of those that I've test work, but still do not have the fancy options enabled, like tagging, which is something I really like/want. I'll likely just keep looking for quality themes and then just diddle the code to accommodate the upgrade. I just hope I don't blow something up, lol.
