I don't know where else to ask this so...

I have BANS. I installed it and followed the directions to the letter.

The problem is all of the links on the left side navigation come up to a 404 error. Anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi Thamelas,

Sounds like it could be a problem with your .htaccess file. Probably the mod_rewrite statements.

    Hi Thamelas,

Did you upload a .htaccess file to your server during installation? Open it and make sure all the file names look correct. Do you have options for the url rewriting in the Bans control panel? Perhaps you needed to upload a customized htaccess file which may not have been automatic with the initial installation?

You can also seek support from the Bans support forum here.

thamelas: i provide some free tips on my blog on how to profit from BANS site. you may wanna take a look below.

to sum it up, here's my strategy:
    1. select a niche where there are tons of buyers. One of the good place to find the ideas is eBay pulse.
    2. drive targetted traffic to your BANS site. I target only long tail keywords (eg brand names, mobile models).

This was exactly my motivation for building vertuso.com. Not many people know what an .htaccess file is. They have a hard enough time grasping how they will make money, much less how to setup apache config files.

The goal is a site that could be driven by the novice. No need for ftp, unix, mysql, apache, php, and the slew of problems that newbies have with that stuff.

Ok so I'm coming back here for help because the BANS forum isn't really helpful. It looks like the only support is from other members...and then its mostly posting problems and asking for help.

    Here is the problem:

I am getting this error and to say the least it pisses me off. I've spent a few hours already getting everything set up. Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes its slow as hell. Sometimes its slow as hell and pops up the error below.

So how do you fix it?

Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /cont/Mysql.php on line 107

Warning: mysql_free_result(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /cont/Mysql.php on line 114

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /cont/Mysql.php on line 146
    Code (markup):

I have but haven't gotten a response yet. This is creating a problem to the point that the site becomes un-usable.

I think you're having problems with your host (based on the slowness). I think this is BANS trying to connect to the database server, and fails. So the resource that is passed to the function down the chain (mysql_fetch_array(), etc) aren't available, and crashes there. Are you seeing a message 'connect failed' anywhere?

Are you connecting to localhost or another database server? Is this BANS2 or 3?

Its BANS 3. It connects to a database hosted by godaddy. I don't see any failed to connect messages. Only the one I posted.

I just spoke to Godaddy support....What a joke.

The rep said his supervisor said my database is not set up properly and needs to be optimized. So they basically said its my fault. How is that possible? I got rude with the punk cause he came across as really snobbish.

Godaddy is pretty terrible. Their systems are different than everyone else... and for me, at least, it causes hell.

I've never really had an issue until now.

The errors have stopped since I did what I posted above...but the site is still kind of sluggish. I don't know if that is caused by something I'm doing or eBay or Godaddy's database.

The delay is in the api call to ebay. I have the same thing on my site. Not much you can do about that.
