I am looking for a Web Directory script which has a feature for putting reviews on individual pages for each site in the directory. Can you guys please help me.
I would imagine every single script out there could be adapted to do that, it doesn't take much. I know with the phpLynx script you can create dynamic pages on the fly so I'm guessing that by simply adding a link to the created review page you have what you want. You'd be better off clarifying this with the support team over at their forum just to be sure though.
Are we talking a full page containing and individual review or somewhere where the user can simply click a link and add a review to the listing which is then shown underneath say the listing page? If its to be an indiviual page which you are going to add the reviews yourself you could simply create the page yourself and name it with the specific ID of the listing and place it in a folder lets call it "reviews" and then reference it by <a href="/reviews/<!--{listing_id}-->.html">Read Review</a> Code (markup): Hope this helps, I know this can easily be done with the above mentioned script, phplynx as I have previously done it. Thanks Aubenrey, I was waiting on Gary to give me the definitive answer on that one as I wasn't sure a 100% but now I am. Why pay to re-invent the wheel is one saying.
No it's like this: 1. It's a web directory. 2. Every link added to the directory appears in its category 3. Every site appearing on the directory has a seperate page which contains the review (by owner of site, it should be a static page) Thanks Aubenrey
Hi, I've looked at a couple that I thought were good. One was IndexU and the other is In-Portal. As of now, I am going with In-Portal because of its functionality, technical architecture, and support. But I am still in a detail review stage, because it is rather pricey. But for me it is worth the money since customization of any of the other scripts would cost me far more in development and support. If you look at this script, let me know what you think. Rich
I had the pleasure of looking at this software a long while back when my peers were actually considering buying a version of it. We found it far too expensive for what most people want and is all bells and whistles offering not much more than many free scripts offer. Just my honest opinion though.
Hi JamieG, I also had a chance to look at all the other directory scripts. I couldn't find any that I would feel comfortable with unless I was prepared to do a lot of self customization and spend lots of time debugging and maintaining the products. Some directory owners may be able to justify the sweat equity. For me, it is a no brainer. I would not want to spend money on mods and customization and then spend lots more time and money testing and maintaining the mods and customization as the base product evolves. The extra features as well as the clean code is well worth the money, as long as they are being used. If someone is looking to install a basic directory, then I agree and of the less expensive products will do. Rich
I agree with you but you shouldn't have to debug anything if its been coded clean in the first place which phpLynx has. Have you tried phplynx? We are planning to open the source code very shortly now, perhaps then you could have a look at that with an analytical eye. It was based on oscommerce software so your not going to get a better footing than that imho. You can take away the need to add mods (sweat equity) because there isn't a lot more that the one your looking at has that we don't. In fact we have many features in-portal doesn't so I'd say they're on par, just different. I like inportal to a degree, its pretty looking, I don't like gimmicks such as sorting listing in a dozen different ways kind of thing, a simple a-b is good enough for me, but there are things I do like. I was looking at adding the cost of a bulletin system a shopping cart etc and they still wouldn't come to the price in-portal charge so to me its a no brainer only in the opposite direction. Horses for courses I think.
Hi, I did take a look at phpLynx. The lack of open source code was major. There were issues as well. One really big requirement for me is technical support, and the support I am getting from In-Portal at this point has been superb. I can purchase In-Portal in bundles or as modules, which helps my decision. For me, this appears to be the right decision. But I am still in the midst of a technical review. Thanks for the comments. Support for the phpLynx script is probably the best on the planet but I'm going to say that Rich, but honestly, if anything, it does have that as Gary and his team are fantastic. Great to see the lads of at inportal are good as well, mind you for that money I'd expect a coffee as well. The lynx script is going open very shortly, we're just dotting the i's and crossing the t's then we're open for business. Be great if you'd do a review on ours as well.
