With an average age which was so low, most people would have been dead only couple of years after they had a child if they wanted to wait until they are 18. Even in medieval Britain which is only 800 years ago (Mohammad and Islam is about 1500 years ago), the age of marriage was 12 years for girls.

I don't approve of the age of marriage, but culturally, that is normal for this group of people, going back hundreds and hundreds of years. To single out Mohammad for what would have been a fairly normal practice (Aisha was already engaged to another first) in that period, is ridiculous.
