I wanna put this in the right spot: My company has a deal with Staples that offers our members a discount at Staples for office supplies. I did a search in google for simply "Staples". To my surprise, only Staples showed up as a sponsored link on the right hand side. I went to my google adwords campaign, and created a new ad that simply said "Discounts at staples etc.." and the only keyword I used was "Staples". The minimum click price was 10 cents. About 5 hours later, I discovered 5000+ impressions with an average rank of 1.2. I noticed the keywords had been paused. I looked and after only 5 hours, the price per click was raised from 10 cents minimum, to 1.00 per click. Did Google do that? Did Staples do that? Why? I did the same thing with UPS Same result, after 3 hours, about 4000 impressions. Google paused the campaign. I checked the "UPS" keyword, and it had went from 10 cents per click to 10 DOLLARS per click.?? Again, Google? UPS? What do you think?
I see this happening a lot on my campaigns. I think it has something to do with the fact that google doesn't want you bid on keywords that it doesn't think are relevant to your site, so to stop you it jacks up the price. I think it's called "googleslapping"
I have found a few popular longtail phrases with 0 competition. Google wanted to charge me $0.80/click. WTF!!?? Do they want advertisers or what?
One of the biggest parts of what we do, is the fact that we negotiated a discount with staples for members of our organization. We have staples logos all over the page... So thats why I don't understand how they could say it was not related.
have a look at your quality score and make sure the landing page is relevant to the keyword you are targetting. Poor Quality score will cause the minimum price to eventually get jacked up.
This is the landing page that I used: http://www.americasbestcompanies.com/partners/view/staples.aspx Staples is even in the URL!
Sounds a lot like a typical tactic used by companies that have cornered a market. Play by their rules and get penalized for succeeding beyond their limitations. Don't like it, go to Yahoo or MSN and pay to NOT get your ads seen.
I think you don't understand how adwords works - hop over to the adwords subforum and read about quality score, ctr and landing pages. It's not a conspiracy.
Yes...but staples (lowercase) isn't.(although admittedly it is referring to it) Again, why punish people for playing by their rules. If the name of your company happens to be a common noun used all over the place, they don't punish you for it being on un-related websites.
if u ask me don’t use adwords build sites and buy high links pr then play the game and be the king of keywords u want for along time from using adword
I have heard similar stories at the past. I do not like adwords traffic because it is not that converting as it used to be before adsense
