Any reason for a website to go from #1-3 to page 2-6?

I just noticed that my website went down for all of the keywords. From being #1-3 to page 2-6 for all the keywords. Happend overnight. Any ideas why this would happen?

yeah because some other site must have done some SEO work
if they have more backlinks than you than the chances are that you are sent back
try getting more link from high pr websites

Sometimes these things just happen when google tweak an algorithm and things just come back later, after a few days or weeks

But I have also seen it happen because of getting too many links with the same anchor text or possibly with excessive use of the same keyword on the page

Or perhaps your site is quite new - new sites tend to do well for a few weeks and then disappear again, only to reappear months later

It's just other competitor sites stayed where they are..
I do tend to use 2-3 keywords mainly. I have no choice as I don't really need any other keywords. I do rank well for about 10 more general terms. The site is 2 years old and beein on top for many months.

Not sure about yesterday, but I know Google is working on devaluing directory and paid links. If all your links are these, then you'll probably continue to slip

Sounds like you might be penalized or you're just getting the tail end of the "dewey" update. Hard to say without a link to your site (I assume its not the site in your sig).

It sounds very normal for what's happened since the google "dewey" update. You're not alone at all.

Wasn't it in March? Anyhow, some other sites don't have that many links. I was at the top because I had twice as many links. It's just unfair to be(now) on pages with guys who have 20-50 links pointing to them(I got a few thousand!!)

Dewey was only on two datacenters, for testing purposes. Maybe they decided to roll it out to all datacenters. Hard to tell...

The same happend to a friend of mine. My guess is that overoptimization triggers a filter, kind of penalty.

Looking at this thread maybe I got hit by this. On March 30th I dropped from all my main keywords and the closest site to mine have 500 links. I have 7,000. Still to this day I don't show for any of the keywords for my niche.

Maybe recently Google has been developing different countries SERPs results.

It is fair to have individual SERPs for each country.

Looks like how to become good SEO SERP has became more tough than before.

If your site is a relatively new site this will happen from time to time.
