While going through my Civic SEO backlinks today via Google webmasters central I found a very interesting backlink........ http://developer.att.com/developer/index.jsp?page=goToMarketArticle&id=24100189 Now, I have no clue when AT&T decided to link to my SEO knowledge database but this goes to show how having unique quality content will help get you backlinks from sites you would never expect to link to you.
Congrats... man! had you not done any link building or SEO, they wouldnt have found your content in the first place to make the natural link to it... =)
I've never linked the site anywhere but in digital point, sitepoint and webmaster-talk forum signatures; and in my mind thats far from optimal link building.
Several of my very best backlinks were given to my site by other people without my knowledge until I discovered them in my Google Webmaster Tools lists. One is from an online newspaper article, another is from a university arboretum website, and another is from a PR5 blog. But Breakaway is right -- I wouldn't have gotten any of those backlinks if I hadn't used SEO to improve my rankings first.
Thanks from the above posters My main point of this thread however was to show that the quality backlinks you aim for will come naturally.
nice one. think of natural links as money not earned. if you found £1 (or a dollar) on the floor it's a bonus, right!
But how would they have found tyour site if you hadn't already done some SEO and link parteners for you to even get a web presence....
Content is what search engines are made to find, so if you use "common sense" you would know that content is the most important factor in search results. Backlinks are also not a "side effect". I think you need to re-evaluate where your getting your SEO knowledge and information. Content is King
Beyond forum signatures I never promoted CivicSEO, built backlinks or made link partners. So again, your beating a dead horse that has already been dead. Internet marketing and search engine optimization are two seperate things but again do go hand and hand.
good job man--- this is encouraging to see one of the big name sites linking back--proves they are truly on the lookout for quality, wherever the site is....
Very true, like I said in the OP I wasn't ever contacted or even notifed of this. I found it while going through my downloaded CSV data from Webmasters Central.
