Hi guys, I have been working hard on my sites for over an year now and the way I am tracking, I should be earning the same from my sites as I do from my day job in a few months time. I know that I can do so much more if I quit my job as I will be able to put in an extra 40 - 50 hours a week into my websites and they will grow even faster so I'm quite excited about this. Now obviously, I would like to quit my day job at some stage but I just need some advice from the guys here who have followed this path and now work for themselves. When did you quit your job?? 1. Were you earning more/less/same from your sites as you were from your day job? 2. Did you have any safety net in your savings? 3. If yes, how much - 2 months' pay, 6 months' pay, 1 year's pay?
I'd just do both... Sacrafice alittle becuase you can't devote as much time, but still bring home a good salary from your day job. I could never imagine web income as being my only source...
I gotta find a *Day Job* I can quit!!!!!... Hahaha I haven't found work for over 2.5 years and my site doesn't make any money so when I do get a job I'm gonna keep it for a long time and do both...
That's true as well. I was under this impression as well and this was my plan too: Do both .... But, now I am at the stage where I know that I can't really do much more unless I free up some more time from my day job.
i think you've got to take a few things into consideration. the biggest item to consider is your liabilities... are you married with a family? do you have mortgages to pay? if you're all alone with liability, why not take the risk and try out full-time webmastering? from your post, you seem to be doing well in that...
I never worked under someone before. I hate working under someone When you have lot of oppurtunities to work from home why to go for a job
#1 How can you know what you hate if you never did it? #2 Working under a cute sexy lady riding...err umm well I wont finish that one. But I could see that as 'work' I would gladly arrive early and leave late for...
Well it depends. Still if she is a shhhhhh.... She is above you in position and she Rulez! And i have always seen people saying the emplorer always rules on you which i can't bear.
I never had a thought to quit day job. Office is just like co-education college for me...working and chitchating with co-employees gives me great strength and relief. Getting up early in the morning..shaving ,showering, wearing favorite cloths, following office timings will impose some sort of discipline on daily routine. Sitting alone in closed room will lack all these activities.
Well i do all these things at sharp timings, and my co-employees being all DP members whom i meet in the threadsand i too chit-chat talk and all! It depends on the way you look into it
Well i am 20 and have never worked for someone my whole life ( i have worked only 1-2 hours SEO for a company) , in fact people work under me now ... i am just enjoying every moment of life !!!
No liabilities. You're right .... If I had a family and kids to feed, I would be clinging on to my day job .... but, I don't have a "full-time partner" at the moment which is why I am considering taking a bit of a risk. I am thinking of taking the plunge in a few months once I have around 6 months pay stashed away in Savings and when I am earning the same (or more) from my sites as I do from my day job. Brookly: Luckily, I don't have to worry about health care apart from the odd GP's bill, being in NZ.
If you don't have the dependents, and know for a fact that you can live on what you are making online for now comfortably, then the only question in my mind would be 'if I quit my job today, and things don't work out, how hard will it be to find another job'.
I don't feel comfortable enough to "fire" my boss; if the SE's changed their algorithms tomorrow, my income would be gone as fast as "a hobo on a ham sandwich" -RonMo
someday im gonna quit my day job, but for now..im enjoying it. when i already have enough money to start a business...definitely i will quit.
How can you say that! well it depends for whom you are working, if your boss is nice (like mine) you'll never want to quit your job, I work from home, I can say it's really cool. Even if in some years my revenues from the internet is higher than my salary, I will still not quit my job... I feel more "secure" with a real job
When do some of you have fun? It sounds like some of you have day jobs in addition to internet "jobs". Doesn't that eat up more than 80 hours a week? If so, then AWK!!!! The nice thing about a day job is that it usually doesn't take more than 40 hours a week (with exceptions, of course), and the evenings remain free for doing something besides work work work work work work work work. As Bertrand Russell said: "There's far too much work going on in the world."
