How much should I pay a writer?

How much should I pay a writer to create content pages for The Tech FAQ?

These pages are somewhat difficult to write, due to the technical skills required.

Also, is anyone interested in doing this or do you know someone who is?

Around $12-$15 per A4 is probably fair IMO. I paid $8-$10 for well-written less technical stuff but still meant to be read and acted upon by viewers. If it's content for the sake of having another page I'd go $5.

Also depends on the writer's experience and English language skills plus knowledge of the topic.

The above are what I'd be willing and have been paying at times.

    Sir Will,

The subjects on the right side of the page are very engaging. I could write 400-500 word articles on any of the subjects in the said link for $6 a piece. Writing samples can be delivered per your request.

I've been looking around everywhere for writers, but in general, you should charge about $1 per 100 words.

As a content producer, I'd say that it depends how much work you expect the writer to do. If you want your topics to be heavily researched, well written and drive sales (I noticed that you have ads on your site) it is going to cost more money than a quick content article designed to be a space holder. For example, I can do 300 words for as low as $5--but for $5, you are likely to get something quick and "place holdey." For $20 per article, however, I would be more likely to put some time into the project--take a trip to the library, call a few people to get more in-depth information, find more sources, spend more time on edits, etc. I'd also be less likely to stick to a minimal word count and more likely to base the writing on a length that best suited the subject at hand.

What is the goal of your site? Do you want to provide a service? Build your reputation? Sell ads? Create a site that you can sell for a profit later?

You can see how quickly it gets complicated :)

    This thread is from 2005.

That site has 2,836 content pages now.

But, we're still building it. :)
