I thought this subject could get some good discussions going.
I personally believe the UN should be broken up because the entire group is worthless. Throughout the history of the UN it has sat back and not acted upon anything they are technically required to do by their own laws.

The U.N has done wonders for the world. We had the great oil for food incident.

Not to mention their swift action in Rwanda and now Darfur.

They have done some great work in North Korea (millions are not starving every year after all) and Iraq, and Iran, Yugoslavia, China, eastern europe and Russia, Tibet, Zimbabwe...

The UN has been a failure in what it was setup to do, which is prevent wars but it has done a lot in terms of removing land mines, and feeding the worlds hungry.

I would strongly agree on this, as a political organization as well as in playing a military role UN had failed miserably, but its many other branches had been feeding the poor, helping the vulnerable and had done many great jobs.

Problem with UN on the political and military front was there are too many conflicting interest groups each with their own agendas. With those 5 veto holding members, basically nothing substantial can come out from UN without being totally diluted. Reforms is necessary, but I doubt the 5 permanent members would be willing to give their rights away or even dilute their rights with the introduction of more permanent members.
