Do .edu backlinks still work?

Hey all i wanted to ask a question. Do .edu backlinks still work? Or the value of them is less than it was a while ago because of a big spam level?

Getting an .edu link is not as valuable as it once was, but that's not to say it doesn't hold a high link value.

Thanks :) and what do you think is it better to get a non relative .edu link than relative .com link?

Relative links will always, in my opinion, outweigh the value of the majority of other links. Links from large, established websites being the exception (i.e., bbc.co.uk, sky.com, etc).

Yes edu holds weight. Google hold edu sites in high regard based on the fact that google and the internet was developed to spread knowledge.

.edu links are not working now as they are working in past but yes it's good for compare to other directories links.
Dmoz and EDU both are have a very good reputation in past but now they are same as other quality link

I am not sure they were ever as worthy as told so. Anyway .edu links from blogs/internal forums are useless IMO. Google is eventualy going to use its own algo to decide the value of the backlink rather than from a TLD.

They still work - just like all other TLDs. Search engines don't care about the TLD that a Web page is on. Just the content, how the page is structured, and the links coming to/going from the page in question.

In other words, treat it like you would any other IBL.

A relative link is usually better than non related links.

Don't they say that .edu and .gov give authority to your link and show a great value.

It depends on the age of page under that .edu domain. If those page has been lived for a long time and got weights from Google/Yahoo then it would work. However, they are many .EDU crap offers on the new page of student blogs under .edu domain which hasn't been cached / have no link pointing into it. That's useless and not different from general link.

.edu links are no better than a .com link depending on which .edu site you're talking about. The TLD doesn't give .edu sites value, their backlink profile does. If an .edu site has a powerful backlink profile and you get an editorial link from them, that's worth alot of money. If you're injecting comment links on an obscure .edu site, that could well be a waste of time.

.EDU links always had more power then other links for example. All the blackhatseo last year put their doorways on .edu domains why?Because has more authority than other domain extensions in the eyes of google and other search engines. It`s true because the big amount of spam their power dropped but still a .edu back link is a serious matter when it comes to backlinks.

Isn't .edu backlink just another word for high Page Rank backlink?

They still work, we added one sites link to 10 edu sites and the site is number 3 for a result with 150 million competiting pages.

    hi.

I think edu site is very competitive. If you want to develop a new edu site you work very hard for its promotion to top level.
