So, we all know about to generating traffic - we need backlinks. And to generate backlinks we can, write articles, answer bloggs, yahoo questions, submit to web directories, submit to social bookmarking/networking etc...etc....etc....

But............how many submissions do you need in each of these to do to actully see an increase in your traffic?
i.e. Do you need to submit 10, 20 or 100 articles?
Submit to 100, 200 or 1000 web directories?
Answer 10, 20 or more bloggs?
What volumes are we talking about to actually see an increase in traffic?

A lot of people talk about the ways to increase your traffic (which is well known), but how much volume of submission needs to be done?

    Thanks.
    Andy

If your articles are written really well, and are not rehashing old stuff, you may get some traffic from its listing and distribution. But in most cases traffic will be minimal, unless you submit many articles over a period of many months. Instead of submitting to many article directories, use unique articles at the primary ones (ezinearticles, etc.). There you will have a chance at getting reprinted, linked to, etc. Honestly, this is something I don't like doing. If I am going to write articles, chances are I should be writing for my site instead. I do have articles that bring in 15-20 visitors a day, but they are very unique and not competitive. Plus, they are not distributed anywhere outside of my site.

Web directories don't send much traffic. By much, I mean a few visitors a month (if that) for the smaller directories. In most cases you won't get any traffic from web directories. If you write long and unique descriptions for each directory submission, you may get more visitors from those listings. Directory submissions help you rank for keywords, and pass a little bit of PR. Do some keyword research and find some keywords that will bring you traffic. Then submit to directories with that, or a variant, in the title. That will help improve your rankings and bring you more traffic.

Commenting on blog posts will probably bring you more traffic then article and web directory submissions. The number of visitors largely depends on your activity on the blog and its popularity. Most blog comments send me 10 visitors max a month, unless I have a direct link in my comment which can increase the visitors. If I commented on more popular blogs, the number of visitors I received would likely improve.

You should be doing everything you can to improve your backlink count and quality so that your search engine ranks improve. The key is to rank high in the search engines for traffic keywords, so you need backlinks from a variety of sources.

Here's a free keyword research program for windows. It's not mine, and its freeware. It will help you determine which keywords are known to bring in traffic.

You can get traffic from other sources, such as forums. I think there has to be atleast a few forums for every niche out there. Do a search, add your site to your signature and stay active.

    Good luck :)

I suggest, do not suggest too much! It would like spam and one thing you'll have hard time to do your submissions for tomorrow cause you've done it today. Just make a quality submission. . . quality is better than quantity.

"And to generate backlinks we can, write articles, answer bloggs, yahoo questions"

Yahoo answers use nofollow tag, you links from yahoo answers are not back links.

Write articles and submit them to high quality article directories only.

    Some strategies:

    1. bum marketing
choose proper keywords for submitting an article to Ezinearticles. You don't need any backlinks (outgoing link) for this way.

    2. to increase to PR3 - need hundreds of backlinks from the article submission

    3. to increase to PR5 - need thousands of backlinks from:
    - article submission
    - directory submission
    - social bookmarking
    - blog directories
    - rss feed
    - and more....

Well for directory submissions i just keep on submitting and regularly blog comment, i think it differs for different sites, it depends how much competition you have to push your way through.

A handful of backlinks could get you ranking for a keyword or phrase and generate a bit of traffic, another may require huge amounts to get good serps resulting in a traffic increase.
