Ad Tech and San Francisco

Ad Tech was very exciting but in my nature of online marketing right now it did not seem to fit me. Affiliate Summit West proved to be more beneficial to me just because everyone was a blogger or an affiliate. Ad-Tech is I think geared towards the bigger businesses and startups. A lot of apps and services range from $1k to $40k a month. A lot of the services also looks for heavy volume, so not a lot of the booths really appealed to me nor did it proved to be in my nature, but a good thing to know.

First day it was exciting and exciting, you will see the video below on what I have experienced the first day. Over all it was exciting I got to meet up with Tracking202 CEO Wes Mahler and did not realize my hotel was next to his Mac Mansion (soon to be). So we had a night out and that night there were already pre parties for Ad:Tech, but I was tired from the flight so I didn’t bother with them.

I got out to AdTech too, and here goes the positives:

    * Got to meet all my affiliate managers and have lunch w/ a few of them
    * Learned more about some of the future techniques in online marketing... such as Video Watermarking and Mobile Marketing
    * Got a WHOLE load of goodies from the 10,000+ vendors who were up there!
    * I ate some great Sushi down there!
    * Got to take some wonderful pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge on my 2nd trip to San. Fran... and this time I didn't jump off the bridge :D
    * Met some pretty interesting people up there!

Okay... now here goes the negatives:

    * I agree with Ian, it is barely geared towards affiliates... mostly towards the advertisers
    * Parking was EXPENSIVE around the Moscone Center!
    * I was expecting 2b all nice and sunny in California... and it ended up being rather chilly the first couple days of my stay.
    * The stupid airlines made me take THREE seperate airplanes (1 - From Tulsa to Denver, 2 - Denver to Fresno, and 3 - Fresno to San Fran)

... The last plane ride was HORRIBLE, I was on a tiny, dual propeller plane that went through turbulence the WHOLE trip. At least now I know what it feels like to be in an earthquake :)

Overall, it was a fun trip... but if you are an affiliate, you probably won't get too much out of this one. Save your change for Affiliate Summit.

Ouch.. that's a nice walk in the windy, cold weather. You should've called me up (even though you don't know me - LOL :D), I would have picked you up in my rent-a-car!

It was good to meet the AM's and I look forward to Boston this fall... it seems like everybody raves about Affiliate Summit.
