SEO advice for directories

Hi everyone, i have not been in the forum for some time now.
When i first started in this SEO world, now more than 2 years ago, i didn't even know that the SEO word existed. I was logged on the forum all day long looking for your comments and info. I printed loads of material to keep and read over time.
I must say that i learnt a lot from all of you. thank you.
I believe that you would like to know that my company's website now appears n.1 on google, yahoo and msn which i am very proud of.

I still have loads to learn and probably i have done many things wrong and didn't even realised of it ie: the PR is only 3.

Anyway, i just felt like saying all of this. Thank you again and keep up the good work.

    Well, to the point now:

I have contracted someone who send my website to 1000 free directories. It worked really well and the website went from position 11 to 8 then 6, then 5 then 4..3 ..1.

Now i wanted to get more links to free directories but this great guy told me he doesn't have any directories left.

I saw other people offering 1000, 500, 700 free submissions but i just wanted to know: what are the chances that they only have the same directories that this other guy who already worked for me already had.

I am not sure if I made myself understandable or not. Please ask me any doubts.

    Thank you in advance

Good to see you are seeing some good SERP improvements from building links with web directories.

There are a few thousand directories around, so some directories may already contain your link. It all depends on where the current submitter is getting his directories from.

    Thank you guys.

Mickey, what do you mean by "It all depends on where the current submitter is getting his directories from"?

    Cheers

I think he meant if you hire new submitter who has the same source of the directories that your previous submitter had, it would be waste of time to submit in directories where you link is already reside.

So, the only way to check this would be by comparing them one by one?

The website is translated to spanish and I would like to get good position in serps in spain and latinoamerica, is there anyone here who can submit to spanish directories?

Well if it was an English site then I would have done it. You can try B/S/T Section.I am sure you will find someone. Also be sure to check the itrades before you proceed.

    Good luck!

I don't think those 1000 submissions work so don't waste time on them. BULK + SEO and SPAM + SEO don't go wel nowdays.

I have known this for some time, but have never seen any official source to back this up.

Poseidon, I'm coming across quite a few forums and SEO tip sites that still promote this as good practice, see here for example: http://www.v7n.com/forums/seo-forum/56475-effective-seo-v7n-way.html

So that's supposed to be good advice? Or do they know something we don't?

    Thanks Duke.

Poseidon, even if they are supposed to be manually sent?
I can promise my site was in position 11 and 12 and now is in n.1 although it is true that there is only about 473,000 results in google for my terms.

I can tell you that i didn't do anything major rather than that. Don't you think then it was because of the submissions to free directories.?

If there are hundreds of good directories then there are thousands of bad directories as well.

What good a directory does if it doesn't approved the links and keeps on pending, has many bad links, which doesn't promote much. It will be waste of time and money.

So one has to choose directory carefully before submitting. Thats why we all need good lists of directories which you can find here in DP.

    Cheers

Just a FYI. a lot of Directories want you to re submit your site to them.

If it has been 3+ month since you have submited your sites, you may want to submit your site again.
so they do not remove your site.

I personally have a list of over 10k directories however i charge quit alot for my services
(sorry i dont do the $10 deals) If you are serious about keeping your site in a good position, then you will need to do a little more then just directory submissions.

I will be happy to give you some tips on the next steps you need to take to improve your website. send me a pm

If you have submitted to 1000 free directories then you have enough to last you for a while. You would spend a lot of time trying to find the few that you have not submitted to. I would recommend submitting again in 6-9 months when there are enough new ones to make it worthwhile.

Here is a list of Spanish language directories that may help you out.
