I believe you should run at least two gigs of ram for it to run smoothly. Vista does consume a lot of ram.

i think the problem with the ram is a hardware problem. vista runs a max of 4 gigs and if you have the 64-bit version installed you can use even more ram

Yeah I was thinking about doing that, however most programs aren't supported by the 64-bit interface. It will be more of a future thing, can give quite some problems now I believe.

If you want an easy and cheap way to make your computer faster, then upgrading RAM is the best option.

First thing you need to know is what your motherboard can handle, you can look this up by looking in the guides that came with your computer or with a simple google search on the motherboard brand/number. If you don't know how to find what motherboard you have, you can download the following programs: Everest, Aida32 or Belarc. In those programs it's rather easy to find all the information you need about your computer.
Next step is to look up good offers on a local store or online. You could put in another 512mb, then the best thing you can do is get the 512mb stick out and bring it to the store. Or you could get 1 new stick of 1GB or even 2 sticks of 1GB. It should be really cheap these days.

I used to be on windows XP with 512mb and upgraded to 1gb, it helped out bigtime.

I just noticed that the RAM usage is still high, there is about 9 MB's free at max, but my laptop is working good though. So, I really don't know what the real issue is, apart from the RAM issue.

I agree that 2 gb is the way to go, but I still prefer XP over Vista

I don't know, vista only sucks if you do not know how to properly work a computer.

A lot of RAM is too little to describe the nasty amount of RAM that Vista needs for appealing candy-eye look, other than this it slow time at starting and exiting plus its poor performance if compared with th amount of Resources needed make me believe Vista is the best looking OS ever, just that [IMG]

Vista just plain sucks at most aspects of performance. From networking to basic operations unless you have oodles of ram.

    Vista in resource hungry
if u do not have enough RAM do not use Vista
    stuck to XP pro

Vista requires MIN 1GB ram to perform well
i was using vista with 512 MB RAM and with AERO Effects ON !!

    currently i m using Windows Server 2008
its same as Vista (at least graphics and general features)
and believe me SERVER 2008 Runs faster than Vista Ultimate ed !!

so go for 1GB RAM or with 512 MB ram uu can use Server 2008

are u using Aero effects ?
