.info domains worth using?

Im about to launch a series of sites which will be information and guides on how to do stuff. I'm currently considering using .info domains for these as they offer me a few advantages
    - i can get the name i want
    - they are cheaper
    - .info makes it sound like an information site

The thing putting me off is that ive read a lot of bad press about .info domains and google not liking them much. If i get a .info and seo it the same as a .com ie directory submissions, backlinks, article submissions etc would people expect it to perform just as well as a .com purchased at the same time?

If they are information sites, .info seems like the correct way to go about it. You've also go the .info in the domain itself which would be a plus if anything.

Example, suppose you have a site about information about dogs: dogs.info. Someone may use the keyword "info on dogs" Your keyword is in the domain extension! How awesome is that? If you are targetting information / info then I would say go with .info.

SEO does not count for such extensions, but if you plan to sell your good PR dot info domain you will find that it will normally sell lesser than a similar dot com of the same PR.

And what if the purpose of the site is to be informational or informative? You never know how much quality content you'd be missing out on. NEVER judge a book by its cover - or a Web site by its TLD.

Furthermore, the .com version of the domain name may be held by a domain name parker who may have sat on the domain name for a decade or more just waiting for someone to come along and express an interest in it so the squatter can say "Sure, you can have it - for $250,000!"

There's a certain disadvantage in using an TLD which is not .com-a certain percentage of users automatically attach that extension when attempting to return to a site. Off-line marketing, especially, can be hurt by the use of any alternate TLD, even .org or .net, particularly if a competitor holds the .com. You just might be accidentally advertising for them!
However, if you plan to get most of your visitors through a search engine and not see them again much, .info is fine.
I think there are other issues with .info that have nothing to do with SEO...a general perception, as noted above, that .info is a cheap and therefore lower quality TLD. Whether or not this is true, you'll find it harder to arrange link exchanges and so forth to get started.
If image isn't important to your sites, go with .info. The search engines aren't prejudiced. But visitors and webmasters are.
    Something to consider.

If you are planning on getting most of your traffic from google search or other search engine then go for cheapest domain.

Domain extensions does not count, problem is human brains count, when you type you tend to type say digitalpoint.com who will type digitalpoint.info?

It's true, the dot com is pervasive in our language now. May not matter from an SEO standpoint, but dot coms are also worth more than dot info.

    I am agree with W3master,
Domain name does not mean in SEO.
Still if your website is about providing information blog type than it will be great choice to use .info domain.

It is true that extension does not matter much in terms of SEO but in my opinion, Google and other search engines, when monitoring their index will pay extra attention to .info domains.

It is not something very bad, if you have a legit site. I have .info domains as well, tonnes of them. If you are SEOing your sites the legit way and have good contents, I don't see a reason why you should receive a bias. ;)

"SEO does not care about TLD?"

No sheet? And who told ya that? Info sites are meant to be personal information sites such as blogs and stuff. So they are not meant to rank in commercial areas and competitive terms. .info's are cheap and very used for spam so frowned upon by the search engines.

.info's will never compare to .com's. A .com will always outrank the .info. It's how it should be and get your sheet straight (make some tests) before you say .info's are weighted as .com's. It's 1$ versus 9$.

    Damn!
PS: Read this and stop playing with the noobs minds and money.

A .info will still rank higher than .com sites in the SERPS if SEO is done properly.
