Well, I tried to load a few thousand articles into a wordpress blog site (my own). Seems wordpress is ill-adapt at handling thousands of articles. I've tried optimizing and everything but, she's dead jim. Anyone know of light-weight alternatives?
you're trying to load a few thousand articles at ONCE? wordpress is able to handle whatever you throw at it. however your hosting provider may not be. and your machine may not be.
I beg to differ, but the code is not optimal. For example, to show the archives, it has to query the entire database to get dates for each article. That's highly non-optimal, so the solution is to turn off the archive feature widget. Similar goes for the categories etc. I loaded 48k articles and tried to load the home page....no go joe.
Ok just for anyone reading this, I had to delete one of the indexes on wp_posts and create new ones for post type, status, date and the site performs better now.
if you need your wp blog to work with search engine, dont add thousands article per day. do it manually 5 post maximum. then 100% of indexing and living your site in google
