My business partner and I are having a bit of a disagreement about an issue and we made a little bet on what the digital point community would say. We were talking about one way links back to our site. First off just to confirm something that i believe to be generally accepted, am i correct in thinking that the #1 most important issue to search engines and your ranking is how many one way links there are back to your site? Now for the bet part Which is better or is both of these situations the exact same for your site: A) 1,000 individual sites that all have ONE link back to our site OR B) ONE individual site that has 1,000 pages each page having a link to our site C) both are the same and it doesn't matter
Simple, A is better. B would only count as one backlink or maybe only a few. Go for option A when link building.
A is way better for sure. Granted, this should be accomplished over time or could hurt you instead of help. Google frowns upon link purchases based on my understanding.
The A is better! Because your site get 1,000 backlinks from sites with 1,000 IP addresses (different).
For the bet I will also go with A but both methods are potentialy flawed. There are far too many factors to discuss on this post that could determine the importance of a link. 1,000 poor quality links may not equal to the power of 1 well designed backlink. Don't think of inbound links in terms of volume alone. Volume does not equal quality.
Think about backlinks as votes, each backlink to your site is a vote for your site. Now, if one site has 1000 pages and linking from each page to your site, this does not mean that there will be no benefits but instead the benefits would be higher if 1000 sites vote for your site. Its like one person voting with all 10 fingers vs 10 different people voting for you.
Wrong, unique quality rich content is the most important factor. First, your question isn't proper. Are the backlinks pointing to multiple web pages or just one web page? Based on what you asked I'm assuming you mean they all point to one web page. The answer would be A, you would want multiple sites linking to your website not just one site with a sitewide link.
"A) 1,000 individual sites that all have ONE link back to our site" This is the much better than the second option. In this way, you will get back links from different IPs.
There are a lot of factors you don't mention. I would rather have one link from a pr 10 ( or 9,8,7,6,5, and even 4) page on the same topic of my site with perfect anchor text for my keyword then either A or B. If you must choose seperate IPs are always better. A thousand different sites and one of them is likely to get traffic or pr. A 1000 links from the same domain can still be powerful even if they are low pr. They might bump a page from pR 0 to 1 for example. But they should be on topic pages. If any of them manage to get traffic it can still be worth it.
