Pardon my naivete, but in building a website, what should I use: CMS (like Drupal or Joomla) or WYSWYG editor (like Dreamweaver, Frontpage, etc)?

Hoping to be enlightened by your advice. Thank you! :)

Depends on your coding knowledge. CMS's can be good depending on the flexibility you need.

Wordpress is lot more easy compared to others, If you don't have through knowledge in programming go for a CMS. Also it takes less time to setup a CMS than hand code a portal.

Unless you're going to start out big, I'd start out with WordPress. There are many sites out there that aren't blogs, but still run on it. It's super-easy to set up.

The latest Macromedia version of Dreamweaver was disappointing to me. And, I read that Adobe has made it bigger and slower. FrontPage 2003 isn't as bad as people say, though previous versions really screw up CSS.

Considering that I'm a newbie in website building, what should I use then? I'm more inclined to go for what's free to use as I'm still testing the waters.

How do I exactly go about using wordpress? Where do I get a free download? Installation instructions? Can I use wordpress for a regular site (not a blog)?

Is wordpress a WYSWYG editor or a CMS?

for long term I think you must know about HTML. I suggest that you buy new book about how to write HTML code then try to learn about editplus or dreamweaver. If you completed this step I think you can use any CMS in easy way.
