Website designs that make you go: wow

Have you ever gone to a website and just thought: wow that design is amazing.

This is more to do with the look then the SEO. Pleasing to the visitor not the search engines.

    I really like these:

http://www.mochiads.com/ <-- great cartoon looking simple style.

http://www.clubpenguin.com/ <-- a kids site, but it looks great. Full screen and cool even on my 22" monitor.

http://www.newgrounds.com/ <-- really like the colours and the rollover effects on links, aswell as all the pics.

    http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb

Do you have any links you'd like to share to websites that you think look great? (even if they are your own ;) )

What to you think makes a website look great - and professional at the same time.

    Cheers all.

www.google.com - No, I'm not joking. Google has completely mastered the art of minimalism in web design.
www.apple.com - One of the more stylish websites on the Internet for the last several years.
www.ask.com - Sure, no one uses it, but it's still got a great design! The new "skins" add a lot.

I like good looking sites that don't use or use very little Flash. Just like the ones Phooey lists.

I completely agree. Sites that use excessive Flash are an instant turn-off. Pretty much any fast food and/or soft drink website falls in to this category. Take a look at www.buffalowildwings.com and tell me that the person that designed the site wasn't some sort of crazed idiot who's only web design skills consisted of Flash and basic HTML. I love their boneless wings, but their website makes me want to kill someone.

Sorry but in my opinion those two are far from "amazing".

Definitely agree with apple and ask.com, I think the skins are a great feature.

Apple.com has a great design. I am not a big fan of flash or excessive graphics. Simple an easy to navigate works well.

I really like ChaCha, that's because the images are so "crystal clear".

I am not sure how they do it, but I haven't seen images like this as part of a webdesign before. Especially the hand and the mobile phone.

Agreed, that does -look- pretty cool, although I don't know how I'd rate the usability of it.
