Hey, I am upgrading my E: drive which is a 190GB IDE drive and I want to replace it with a 500GB Sata drive. I want to know how I can clone what was on the IDE drive on to the Sata drive without having to re-insall any programs or anything. I want to make a straight swap so other than Windows realising I have a new hard disk, I don't need to do anything it just all works. Any healp on this one guys?
There are also open source versions of Norton Ghost, just in case you do not have the licensed copy, can't remember the name but I guess you can google for it.
Use Norton Ghost, first you can make image file(s) by processing "local disk to image", then do "disk from image" to your new sata!
You can also try this, it is a Norton Ghost equivalent and is open source and free http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/
I always use Norton Ghost to clone and make a backup of my harddisk. never used any other program I still using the 2002 DOS version and i think it's better than windows version.
Yeap DOS version is definitely better, when I try cloning an NTFS Windows 2000 system, the Windows version of Norton Ghost keep giving me pagefile error whereas once I change to DOS version, everything runs perfect.
