I am an SEO professional and am currently trying to build up my portfolio with any site that would like a little SEO advice. Leave me your site details and I will give you some tips and how to improve your search rankings and market yourself with social media techniques. Start the questions coming!
@MakeThatDollar: I like your site, you seem to have good content and, judging from the number of comments, you seem to have a lot of readers. I also noticed you already have a PageRank of 2 so you are likely to do well with a little optimization. Here are some basic things that I would to help SEO the site a little: Change Your Title Tags- instead of the generic title tag you have on GPTTracker I would incorporate the keyword phrases that I would want each page to rank for. For example, I would make "ChillinCash Review" the title on that review page so Google knows that's what the page is about. Get Some Backlinks- Crucial to any site's rankings are some links pointing back to your site. WiiArcade has approximately 102 backlinks according to Yahoo and seems to be quite successful. You're number 7 for "free wii games" so I would say that site is doing pretty good. On GPT Tracker I would maybe start a link section and try to make some link trades. Digital Point is a great place to start. A conscious effort to drive links to both sites will make a big difference. Make Better Filenames- The GPT site seems to have its pages generate by some sort of script, so this tip may or may not apply. If you can do it on either site I would recommend naming all future pages and images with keywords, such as a page entitled "free-flash-wii-games.html" and making an image name something similar. This will help ensure that Google picks up on the theme of your site Those are pretty basic SEO tips that are sure to make a difference. Let's take a look at some tips to help do some social media marketing: Digg, Reddit, and More- I would say that the Wii site would be a great candidate for social voting sites because these users love content like this. Set up some accounts on these sites and then submit your pages (preferably not the home page) over the course of a couple weeks. Social Voting for SEO-I would recommend submitting the GPT site to some sites that guarantee links. This content wouldn't necessarily be popular with online sites, but by submitting it to such sites as Propeller, Newsvine, and Simpy you will be able to get some quick links pointing back to your sites. I have used sites like these to build over 80 backlinks in less than two weeks. Use your keyword phrases in the tags for these sites. Hope this helps you out. You may want to check out the social media marketing tutorial in my signature if you want to flesh out these ideas a little bit more. I also love followers on Twitter, so I recommend that if you would like to get updated on more of my advice (link is in signature too).
Can you give me any tips? My two sites are www . speculationcentral . com and www . boyohboycott . com
Wow thanks betatype! I will re-read your advice tomorrow and change the things you suggested. Thanks again.
SEO stands for "Search engine optimization". See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization for more information.
I think he was kidding. There's no way someone has 1,864 posts here and doesn't know the meaning of SEO.
Hi Betatype, My website is poker is rigged. I'm sure there are some great ways to SEO my site but I could really do with a bit of help. Thanks, Nick.
@GameOver Let's take a look at a few things that you can do for your site to sell a few more e-books. Going into this I had no idea what HSC stood for since that seems to be an Australian thing, so I did a little research and assume that it refers to the "higher school certificate" for those graduating high school. My first impression (and reason I had to do outside research) is your site doesn't do a good job of explaining what it is you're selling. I couldn't find the phrase "higher school certificate" anywhere on the site, but of course you want people searching Google to find you when they are looking for that term. You also claim that I can get a "UAI of over 90," but I have no idea what that is since it's abbreviated. People taking this test would likely know what you mean, but it is wise to have the phrase spelled out, in addition to your abbreviations, so Google will rank you for those as well. Make Some Headlines- To start my SEO effort I would change the headline for your page where it says "Welcome to HSCguide.com." Google places emphasis on what appears in the headlines for your site, so I would change that to something like "Easy Higher School Certificate Study Guide and Tutorial." That way Google will rank you when someone searches for "Higher School Certificate Study Guide" or "Higher School Certificate Tutorial." Links are Where Its At- Granted your site is only a single page, but the way you've set up your links can make a difference. Google will associate a page with the text of a link point toward it. Therefore, I would change the link at the very top to something like "HSC Study Guide" or another keyword that you feel people would use to find your site. The same goes for the "home" link in your navigation menu. Branching Into the META-Physical- I noticed that your META tag containing your description isn't really fleshed out. I would change your description in the source code of your site from "hsc ebook, study guide" to something a little more descriptive. Google uses this to display the description of your site in their search results, so when you do start to show up in search results you want a good description to draw people in. Make Your Images Count- This is a minor addition to your SEO plan but I like to use it as its an easy way to increase the number of times your keyword phrase appears. I would save the image from your site with a real descriptive name like "higher-school-certificate-study-guide.jpg" and change your site so it uses the image with the keyword rich name. This will only take a few seconds to change and helps Google decide what your site is about. Backlinks or Bust- The main way that Google judges the quality of your site is through the number of links pointing at it, referred to as backlinks. I used the Yahoo Site Explorer to see that you only have one link. You may want to consider adding a "resources" page where you could arrange with other webmasters to swap some links. Digital Point is a great place to do this, just look through the link exchange forums. If you are interested in writing about your program (i.e. giving a little info away free) I think that you could do well with a Squidoo page or other blog. Squidoo lets you write your own page and then point links back at your main site. You could then add your Squidoo page to some social sites, which would in turn give your main site some credibility (and links). Social sites can go a long way in getting you some backlinks so you may want to check out my article on social media marketing in my signature. I hope that some of this info helps you out in getting some search engine results. Please send me a PM if you have any questions or comments. @Everybody Else Thanks for so much for the positive feedback on my tips. I'm trying to get to everyone as fast as possible but I hope no on will be upset if it takes me a few days Keep the sites coming!
