I think it can be possible. It probably wouldn't take 4+ years like other degrees do, but I think that in the near future (within the next 10 years), people will be able to obtain an internet marketing/online business bachelors degree (or at least a masters degree to regular marketing, and business).
I think there will be a lot of degrees that will involve the internet in years to come. However, I don't think that online marketing/online business will be a degree on its own. It will most likely be a module or 2 in a BA Marketing degree instead.
good comments... i actually teach an intro to ecommerce course at a college in canada. it is a required course to graduate with a MARKETING concentration. it would make a NICE concentration/major for a business degree/diploma. P.S. i spent WAY MORE TIME on SEO, PPC, link pop + "domaining" than i was supposed to... but the students loved it!
Really? Well that shows it probably will happen. What about internet marketing? Is there at least a chapter/topic on that?
I have no doubt that more and more legitimate degrees will be offered via the internet. And a major or specialization in anything pertaining to the internet would seem to be ideally suited to the online degree methodology.
it's happening, for sure. i spent a fair amount of time on "Internet Marketing." i majored in BUSINESS MANAGEMENT in university... if i was doing it all over again today, and Internet Marketing was available as a major - there's no question, i would take it.
How has your business management major influenced your online career (if there is one), if you don't mind me asking?
Well yes it will be soon but like any degree is useless for me knowledge s evrything i don't need pappers to show i know stuff
having a solid understanding of profit/loss, economic inputs, efficiency, CRM, customer service, unlimited opportunity and the motivation of SUCCESS have been major influences on my "online career." i teach "stuff" in school all day, then i go home and DO IT. my #1 tip for success - NEVER GIVE UP, even on days when you ask yourself, why am I doing this day-in and day-out... for what? CHEERS, mike
There are probably already associate degrees available in Internet Marketing & Online Business, I wouldn't be surprised if you start seeing bachelor's degrees in the field in the next several years.
Surely there won't ever be an entire degree on Internet Marketing. I would've thought there would be modules of Internet Marketing in a normal Marketing degree. Perhaps being able to specialise in Internet Marketing in your final year would be availiable of course.
I'm also wondering who would be teaching this maybe some of the most successful IM "gurus" out there? I have also noticed that IM conferences have been on the rise. Maybe in the process of IM becoming an official degree, schools will start popping up...
