Someone is threatening me to steal my work

I am developing a new Tutorials Blog.
I created my own wallpaper, to share with everyone else for free.
I used a picture of a forest , found in google to make that wallpaper, and that picture wasnt copyrighted.. well, its only a picture of a forest..
and now, a guy is saying that he will steal my wallpaper and add some minor colour changes in that wallpaper, add his own copyright notice, and will spread it in public.. which made me really angry, cuz i worked on that wallpaper for 2 days.. :(
He says " I will use my wallpaper as a picture and make his own wallpaper just like you used the picture of a forest"
now what kind of excuse is this ?? I am really worried that he will steal my work :( , please help me.
He also says that he will copy the Tutorials I write on my blog, and will change its wording using an online content re writer , and I dont want this to be happened..
Is there any ways to stop him doing that??
    Please help me !

    Regards,
    Nasty Nappy

You know this person for real? or just from internet? every body can steal your works even if they don't tell you and change a little and then make it there copyright (wich is no real copyright).

If you know him in reallife! you maby get a advocate! :D

These types of things happen.. you just have to maintain original content and make sure your visitors know you are the authoritative site on the matter.

If you wanted to take it to an extreme you could do certain things such as notices to his ISP/upstream or try to mask the content with backlinks/keywords to your site.

There is not much you can do if you didnt put a copyright notice there at first go. Secondly, the picture you worked up, is actually an independent picture which he will work upon.... its really cheap from his end... but honestly speaking, there is not much ya can do if you didnt put any notice at first. I mean think about it logically.

However, if he steals it head to toe, like a cloned copy, then you can go for all the legal action.

well, the thing is , I know him, he uses same ISP as me , and he is my cousin
And I DID put copyright notice on my wallpaper.
he just says he will use MY wallpaper, he likes it too, but he is saying he will steal it, make some colour changes using adobe photoshop's colour balance tool, and put his own copyright message
what can i do with him ?? he is my cousin, so cant take any legal action against him :(
and he wont stop doing this thing if i will tell him to do so, cuz i already asked him many times not to do it, but he says " Do what ever you can, ill steal your wallpaper anyway" :(
isnt there anyway I can prevent my tutorials and wallpapers from being stolen ??

    Nice cousin,

If he puts it on his site you could report him to his host for having stolen content.

Though, the irony of complaining about someone stealing your work while advertising your warez forum in your sig is not lost on me :)

well, yeah, I am sort of advertising a warez forum, but it doesnt mean that I cant protect my own work...
But not advertisemnt, just looking for a moderator for it..
anyways, thanks for reply...but , I dont steal anyone's content to put on my site, my MEMBERS do it :) , and they too copy threads from other warez forums..
well, my warez forum is totally different from my blog, I keep it away from my blog, and I am also thinking to sell it, just waiting for more threads and posts :)
and yeah, removed the message from siggy :)

Don't worry about neg reps, there isn't anything you can do anyway - Someone did that to me the other day because I said I agreed with someone elses post - they called me "stupid" - it's just sad, petty people who do this type of thing.

Yes you can! There is a nifty little java script which makes your site right mouse safe... aka means people cant save your images but only view it... Get that script and implement in your gallery! Just google it.

right-click disable is a waste of time, if someone can view an image online they can get it that's the bottom line.

Right-click disable is only a waste of time protecting against people who know about the other methods. It will still stop a great deal of users who only know how to save an image by right-clicking it.

Just because there are ways around it doesn't mean you should go ahead and use it.

There's more ways to try and save your images from highjack, like put it as background, put a transparent gif over it, put the background source in the css file, use flash <=pretty effective.
But in your case if it's wallpapers... ??? but anyways i'm sure you din't take the photos yourself right?

i am not sure if watermarking was mention, but you can do that ;p

    What you can do is...

Take a file and then take the image in jpeg then run cmd, copy bios and stuff. I seen people copy a .bat file into .jpeg and stuff, idk look for a tut, i downloaded a jpeg file like that and it didnt allow me to edit lol

Yes I do have a watermark on it :)

Yes true it is Free, but only if you dont use it to re-create anything like a new wallpaper or something else like that.

    Yeah agreed..

Yep, agreed.. they can ofcourse copy the link from source code and download the image.

But I dont want to disallow them saving the image, I want them to download it, but dont steal the work.

Thanks for reply, It really helped me a lot :)

I've been getting such a kick out of this thread.

This isn't your work, you stole someone else's photo via a google image search, modified it and threw a copyright notice on it and now you're complaining that someone else is going to do the same to you?

No, it wasnt someone else's work.
They shared the photo, and that photo didnt have ANY copyrights on it, I confirmed it first myself before making a wallpaper.
And about doing same thing, they arent doing same thing, if they want stock photo, they can freely have it.
But they are stealing copyrighted work, and they are stealing WORK, not a PHOTO.
If you dont know difference between Work and Photo, then you ought to read this :

    Thank you

You claim photo wasn't copyrighted....well...can you show us proof of that? Was the photo possibly licensed wiith GPL/GNU? If so then the work will perpetually be licensed as such.

I don't see why you are getting so bent out of shape over a wallpaper.

If this is your cousin why not complain directly to his parents about it. Seems like an internal family issue to me.

What prevents you from taking legal action? Certainly him being your cousin doesn't prevent legal action.

Any chance you can share your wallpaper with us? I would like to see what 2 days of work on a photo looks like.
