No it doesn't move me. Not one bit. And I am not cold hearted. Because I know it is mostly the liberals faults for the "problems" with our health care system. People cannot afford insurance. Which is a grossly exagerrated lie to begind with. If somebody works full time at minimum wage they could still live a good life and pay for all needed things. Plus insurance is so damn high because democrats such as John Edwards has done things to raise those rates. Edwards alone is personally responsible for the millions upon millions of dollars.
Well.. If you *do* agree.. even a tiny bit, that makes me happy I believe in liberty, and I fear that any kind of centralization may ultimately lead to totalitarianism (according to Hayek's "Road to Serfdom"). Thus I don't think it is OK to run a universal health care, with all of the citizens being forced to pay for a 'free' nation-wide centralized health care. As for the knowledge, well, it depends. In my country - Poland - there are currently tons of unemployed BAs. They finished state universities. The economy has almost no gain from them, since if they somehow manage to get a job, it's usually some low level position like a sales assistant - a profession one can enter directly after grade school. On the other hand, if they had gone to a trade school and completed a diploma over there (e.g. in carpentry), they would have gotten a good paying job requiring them to use their school-learned skills. As long as schools stay "free" (=as long as everyone will be forced to pay for them, even those who actually don't attend any schools), I don't think that this will change, and I suppose that people will continue to make such irrational choices. Lol, actually did you read that article? The service you mentioned are usually ad supported.. OK, maybe not all of them, but ultimately they're bound to go bankrupt, unless the company behind them finds *some* not necessarily direct way to profit from them. As for schools and health care, like I already said, they may SEEM free, but in the end, someone HAS to pay for them..De nihilo nihil fit (nothing comes from nothing)
Michael Moore is very dishonest. I don't want to call him a hack, because I think skepticism towards the mainstream view and what our leaders want us to believe is a good thing. But he does not make honest arguments in his films. People think the US has "privatized" medicine, but it's nothing of the sort. Our government is more involved in HC than most systems you'd think of as "socialized." It's sort of the worst of both worlds -- the government gets their greedy, grubby hands on the industry and regulates the hell out of it (thus driving up costs), but then they still leave us on our own to pay for it. If we had a truly privatized system, we'd be a lot healthier.
I truly don't want to get to deep into the arguments as well as politics. Hmm, I just want to say that, Sicko really moved me when I was watching it and MM's arguments (at least some) are reasonable to me. @bragn: an universal health care system is not a free lunch, either, what are the taxes from and for? @ajl: It would be very hard to disclose the opinion about the systems. But one points in Sicko, which was spoken by a lot of employee from HMO, that the HMO need to denied as many as possible the case, in order to gain the profit. I think that almost every one are healthy, and actually they don't need much from the health care system. But If you were one of the patient mentioned in the film, what would you think. (I don't suppose you said these people are actor that acted for MM?)
Well well why don't you just have a big cry about everything that is wrong in the world? Stay on topic of Sicko.
My thought is that no-one should profit from someone's health care (or lack of it.) I disagree with both users statements here. Internet search, email, etc isn't free because you get advertised to. A large company isn't going to do something without some soft of benefit to their companies. But to the original comment to TANSTAAFL. Yeah, I agree, but think about it this way. The current cost to Americans annually for healthcare (per cap) is more than what it would cost if our medical program were socialized. Furthermore, out of the countries that do have some sort of health care program, France's is the most expensive. France's healthcare system was ranked #1 by the World Health Organization. Yet, their health care system costs less per capita than ours.
What we really need is an open market system with no idiots like Edwards going in and raising the prices of everything.
I don't know much about the USA's politics, but there are two main parties there: Democratic and Republican, and you seem to be a radical Republican, right?
Radical? No. I am somebody that looks at logic. It just happens that Republicans make more sense. They use facts to back up their arguments while I have noticed that liberals constantly try to debate with emotional crap.
Just because we are human so it's reasonable to be emotional. I found an arguments between two opinions would be a never ending one. By the way, can you tell exactly what/who lies and who tells the true in the movie? Of course you must see both faces of a problem, provided that you are a logical one as you said.
I do see both sides but the other side is just wrong. And what part of Sicko is a lie? All of it. Everything Moore says is normally a lie. Just fasle info for propoganda. For example he tries to say Cuba is better at health care. Yet American even ranks higher then Cuba overall in the world for health care.
No, you do not. When someone insists that everthing is wrong or something is perfect - that's is also the propaganda. Of course, a propaganda is not always bad, it's unnecessary sometimes. In this case, you just say everything's false, that's unreasonable. About your example, again I checked the HMO rank http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html (I don't know if this is dated or not) France: 1st, UK: 10th, Canada: 30th, USA: 37th, Cuba 38th How come the most powerful country, with the highest cost for health care in the world ranks just 2 postion higher than a developing country? And did Moore say that Caba is ranked higher? I don't remember, but even if he did, you still should consider my point above. It's not difficult for you, right? (Beside, I still thought that the positions change a little bit through years) Anyway, my coutry is rank 160th, so sad but that's the true condition. And we don't have universal health care either. Now what's your other examples?
