Who has "gotten" a penalty (note the stupid American phrase there). By reputed directory he means a directory that is well known and has a good reputation.
well of course its his fault for not cancelling but I know how it is with so many things to do sometimes. The same thing actually happened to me with botw and they refunded.
I'm not trying to make any fights here, I don't even think Wallace is from America. It's just when Americans claim to speak English when they don't it annoys me as it rubs off on other English speakers like Indians.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't India a British colony? Wouldn't it therefore stand to reason that the English spoken in India is more influenced by the British than the Americans? I admit we often get a bit uhm creative with the English language, but blaming us for someone else's bad English? lol Returning to topic... I have been quite surprised by the number of directory owners who would not refund. I am disappointed to see that so many here feel that way. This thread proves how quickly that can come back to bite you. Also, aren't PayPal subscriptions automated (I've never done one)? Wouldn't that make it even more unlikely that there was truly a new review performed?
Desperate and poor business practices. They should automatically notify anyone of upcoming automatic charges. Short term gains - long term poor customer satisfaction and I surely wouldn't use them if this is how they run their business. Rich
Today I received notification from GoDaddy that my domain will be automatically renewed in two months. THIS is how it should be done. What Aviva is doing is attempting to get some quick bucks off the top while the owner is looking the other way. I call this desperation. Soldi companies do not have to play these kind of tricks. Rich
I think they were within their rights to not issue a refund. I think it would have been better if they had issued a refund. And - I think this is a lesson for both site owners and buyers - do your due diligence. When stuff like this happens, people talk about it, so it's no surprise this thread was started. We may not like threads like these, but it's a reflection of the 'real world.' And I don't know about anyone else, but we speak American 'round these parts.
I know of two ways the subscription option works. The first is when you submit your site for review you are asked if you would like to subscribe with a option for yes and an option for no. By choosing yes, in my mind you just agreed to annual, monthly, quarterly renewals and if you no longer want to subscribe the onus is on the subscriber to cancel. The other way is the way I use and that is with annual notices being sent to the owner of the site asking if they want to renew and providing a link for that option. I actually prefer this method over the other as I think it is more professional to provide annual billing. However, I do think that in either case it is on the subscriber to either cancel their subscription or in the case of my site not remit for the invoice.
well, it is official.... he is refusing to refund. after i filed the dispute, he responded within 12hrs (again, while ignoring all my emails) to PP by showing that my links are still on his directory. I've completely lost respect for this guy and to think we used to have good discussions on this forum. The thing that infuriates me most, is his refusal to discuss with me and to reason with me. I'm perfectly fine if he at least tries to explain that his editors have done some work, and thus cannot refund. But he simplies ignores my most polite msgs and emails.....
Firstly did you allow enough time for a reply before contacting PayPal? Were you polite when contacting the owner? < If the answer to the above is yes then I feel you are 100% right to lose respect for the owner. The directory is not the money making machine that it once was, since being penalized the owner doesn’t seem to really care for the directory as he once did. I have defended the owner on pervious threads but I’m hearing things that have started to change my opinion. Thanks Brian If you are offended by my post then let me know and do remember to leave your name!
i waited 2 wks for his replies via email.... nothing. When i file a dispute, reply came within 12hrs. When i sent my explanations in the resolution center over 4 days, nothing again. After i escalated the claim, reply came in 12hrs again. What can i say?
That you learned from your mistake. But thanks for he heads up, that directory owner sounds shady. Subscription based charges should always send out a notifications like godaddy does.
You seem to wanna create fights. Who the fu*k are you to judge someones English? Don't try to bring countries and comment in general attacking nations. Keep your daam opinion in your pocket.
that's also the reason I don't want to apply yearly charge in any of my directories... quite hard to handle it.
